Utahns are invited to complete a personal health assessment at www.saltlake2002.com under the “Community” link and then begin participating in health-promoting activities. SLOC along with its 12 health partners are presenting four “Gold Medal Mile” walks this month with events in Salt Lake City on June 16, Provo on June 17 and West Valley City on June 24. Previous walks have been held in Murray, St. George, Cedar City, Riverton, Kearns, Sandy, Layton and various Salt Lake City locations. Participants receive unique Gold Medal Mile commemorative pins for walking a one-mile course and main- taining a record of their commitment and improvement. Pins are exclusively available for “walkers” only. The events are free and open to the public. Registration is available online under the “Community” website. link on the SLOC Friday, June 16, Spirit of the Games, ZCMI Mall, 3-6 p.m. Saturday, June 17, The Peaks Arena, Provo, 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, WestFest, Ice _ West Valley City Family Fitness Center, “Surveys among Utahns indicate 12:30 p.m. that about 50 percent of adults are inac- tive,”’said Connie Kitchens, manager of SLOC’s “A Healthier You 2002” pro- gram. “We hope the presence of the athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games serves as motivation on for people to trade in unhealthy lifestyles and embrace a life of well- ness.
