Letters to the Editor Candy Being Collected for U.S. Military Troops My sweet niece is at it again! So many from the Valley donated last year to this candy collection project that she has asked me to put the word out again this Halloween season. This is a project she has taken on because of the personal connection she has with the military, and the gratitude she has for the men and women who fight for our country. If you would like to donate, you can drop off your left over Halloween candy, or candy you buy just for these amazing men and women, at the Allred/Otay home located at 1282 N. 7100 E. in Huntsville. We will be collecting the candy for her until November 5. Thank you for your support in supporting our troops! Sarah Otay, Huntsville Scout Asks for Community Assistance in Gathering Items for McKay-Dee NICU & Pediatric Unit My name is Lucas Otay and I am working on my Eagle Scout project. I am collecting and making blankets for the McKay Dee Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that need to be 45” x 45”. You can donate fabric or you can donate premade blankets. If you make blankets to donate, please let me know the time you spent on making them as that is part of what I need to report on about the project. I am also collecting items for the pediatric unit. Those items are Play-Doh (name brand only), bubbles, new-release children’s movies (only DVDS), light spinners, Character BandAids, coloring books and crayons, Legos (small and big), ceramic or wooden things to paint, drawing pads and paper, Tempera and watercolor paint sets, Crayola markers, and gently used or new small toys for all ages. If you would like to donate something, I will be collecting items until Nov. 15, 2019. You can drop things off at any of the LDS churches in the Valley, or at the Valley Elementary; there are collection boxes at each place, and there is also a collection box on our front porch, 1282 N. 7100 E., Huntsville. If you would like to donate money, I take cash, check (made out to Sarah Otay), Venmo, or Paypal. For this information, please call Sarah at 801-232-8631. Thank you for your help in getting these items for kids at McKay Dee Hospital! Lucas Otay, Huntsville Huntsville’s 2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck Event a Success! The weather forecast for September 28 was not promising: high temperatures in the 50s and thunderstorms predicted all day long with heavy rain. Miracles happen, however, and sometimes forecasts are wrong, thankfully! TAX NOTICES cont. from page 1 our website at www.webercountyutah.gov/treasurer and update your address by clicking on “Change Mailing Address,” or call me at 801-399-8007, or send me an e-mail and I will be happy to assist you. You may email me at <jbond@webercountyutah.gov> We also are very aware of the expenses of county government and are doing our part to help reduce expenses. Years ago, a tax notice was used that had perforations around the outside of the envelope. It cost $47,000 each year to print those notices. A few years ago, we went to a single piece of paper in an envelope and the annual printing expense dropped to $18,000. This format also allowed us to put multiple tax notices in the same envelope, further reducing printing and postage costs. We are pleased that, this year, our printing estimate is just under $10,000, while printing almost 18,500 more notices than before, namely 75,000 notices with perforation versus 93,500 notices this year at the lower cost. over 9,000 electronic payments. We also hope to soon have that many eNotices. In addition, we continue to strive to improve our communications with our taxpayers. We know that some in the Upper Valley may not be receiving their tax information because of a mailing address issue. We encourage you to send us your correct mailing address so we can update our records. Feel free to log onto for making this event possible through monetary donations as well as volunteering their time on a blustery, autumn day. And thank you to all who came to Touch-A-Truck. See you again next year! Savanna Swift, Huntsville Invitation for Articles The staff of The Ogden Valley news welcomes the submission of articles by our readership.
