Show Volume XXV Issue VII The Ogden Valley news Page 11 June 1, 2018 Back Country Horsemen Host Wasatch Front Youth Horse Camp Back Country Horsemen is generally thought of as an organization of likeminded people who enjoy riding horses but also have a keen interest in keeping trails open and maintained for non-motorized use. As a national organization in over 30 states, the total number of volunteer hours in 2017 exceeded 324,000. The organization also actively participates in issues regarding preservation of “open space,” “Leave no Trace,” and youth outreach programs. Read more at <bcha.org> This June, the Wasatch Front Chapter of Back Country Horsemen will hold its 5thannual “Youth Horse Camp” at North Fork Park from June 8 thru June 10. All that is required is to bring a well broke horse and whatever camping equipment you need, i.e. tent, sleeping bag, camper etc. The Chapter will provide the food (except for lunch on Saturday) from Friday evening through Sunday morning. Those attending can stay as long or as short of time as they would like. Total cost for the camp is $10, which includes a youth membership in Back Country Horsemen of America. Parents are welcome and can participate in the camping and rides. Most of the rides (all supervised) will be on Saturday, along with some instruction on camping with horses, leave no trace, and trail etiquette. If horse-interested youth and their families and friends plan to come, please call Julie Heavirland at 801-859-6976 so we can hold a space for everyone and answer any questions that may arise. We especially want to thank The Community Foundation of Ogden Valley and Smith and Edwards for their support in helping us to meet our mission goals. By Natalie Quinn “Shall I compare thee to a summer day….” Well, here at Ogden Valley Open Market, summer is definitely under way! The Open Market committee continues to work their hardest to bring the most out of our friendly, local market. Included in these plans is a possible move (pending County approval) from the weed-filled venue to the shared parking lot of Mad Moose Café, Diamond Peak, and Alpine Pizza; no more tiny twigs stabbing through sandals this year! This slight shift 50 yards north, gives us an addition of shade, level ground, as well as easy access to the two restaurants located at the Peak Plaza. To remind everyone, the Market starts up the first Thursday of July and ends the second Thursday in September, allowing for a long summer filled with plenty of opportunities to come down and enjoy fresh produce, lively concerts, and fun booths that can be enjoyed by any member of the family. And for the minors, they can get in on the action too! Anyone under the age of 18 can set up a booth at the Open Market for one dollar per night, allowing for a fun opportunity to show off talent and gain experience, which is something any young entrepreneur/artist wants. Of course, for more information on who can be a vendor (hint, it’s almost anyone), and what needs to be done to get a spot, go to <ogdenvalleyopenmarket.com> Make sure to mark your calendars for July 5, when our first concert in our Summer Concert Series will take place, starring Kelso McWilliams.
