A limited number of ski boots provided by Ski’n See will also be available for those unable to provide their own equipment. Cash will only be accepted for same-day registrants. The fastest racers in each division will win fabulous prizes including Rossignol skis or snowboard, Smith Optics, and other Ski Utah swag. A special award for the best costume, as judged by a panel, will be awarded a Ski Utah Yeti Pass good for one day of skiing at every Utah resort during the 2011-2012 season. September 3 at 9:00 a.m., with the race beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Downtown Farmers Market is located at Pioneer Park at 300 W. Broadway on the southwest corner. The organization has been creating brand awareness of and demand for the Utah wintersports product since its inception in 1978. The 2011 Downtown Farmers Market and Art & Craft Market provide an opportunity for the community to support local. The Market— with over 250 vendors—offers a unique variety of farmers, growers, bakeries, prepared food and beverages, packaged foods, and local artisans. More information can be found at <slcfarmersmarket.org> Save the Date for the First Annual “Homegrown Hoedown” Barn Dance The Ogden Valley Business Association is pleased to announce that plans are underway for the first annual “Homegrown Hoedown” Barn Dance scheduled for Saturday, September 17. This casual event will take place in the barn at Kelley Creek Farm in Huntsville. Festivities kick off at 6:00 p.m. “The event is all about local and homegrown,” states OVBA Executive Director, Lisa Karam. “Guests will get to kick up their heels to local favorite Shades of Gray, while dining on a locally grown menu consisting of Monastery raised beef, Kelley Creek Farm lamb, and locally grown produce prepared by a selection of our local restaurants.” A small silent auction featuring harvest baskets, wine baskets, and local business items will accompany the event. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Ogden Valley Business Association’s mis- sion of supporting local businesses, with a portion benefitting the Ogden Valley Tennis Programming Committee’s Tennis Court Complex Fundraising Campaign. The Ogden Valley Business Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Ogden Valley community and businesses. The mission of the Ogden Valley Tennis Programming Committee is to initiate and grow tennis awareness through programs that develop player skills, lifetime individual wellness, and family/ community sociality. GOAL Foundation to Host Hurt in The Dirt Athletes of all abilities will put their endurance to the test during “Hurt in the Dirt” on August 20, 2011 at Fort Buenaventura. Competitors will pick their pain by participating in the gritty off-road Duathlon, Salomon Morning 10k or Petzl Nighttime Trail Run. Free community activities include a festival village, kid’s zone, and free outdoor concert by the Codi Jordan Band. Presented by the Get Out and Live (GOAL) Foundation, competitors will battle for the title of “King of Pain.” Participants will meet at the 88-acre fort for the anticipated 10K, night run or the 8-mile run and 20-mile bike ride. Races will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Participants may compete individually, toughing out the whole event, or in teams of two or four. The Hurt in the Dirt bike and trail run with the tag line “Run, Ride, Survive” will have contenders running through the Weber River bottoms, through trees, over logs and obstacles. They will also mountain bike through the sand, dirt, water and mud. The course consists of a 1.75 mile run lap and a 5.1-mile bike lap. Competitors and teams will run-run-bike-bike-run-run-bikebike. Teams can split up the legs of the race any way they choose. For most, the victory will be completion, but first place individuals and teams will receive a well-deserved trophy. In addition to the signature event, the Duathlon, Petzl will sponsor an off-road nighttime 10k trail run at 9 p.m. Salomon will sponsor an off-road 10k trail run at 9:00 a.m. Headlamps are required for the nighttime run. The Hurt in the Dirt registration is open to any- one over 12 years of age and costs $45 for an individual, $75 for a two-person relay team, or $100 for a four-person team. The cost for the Salomon Morning 10k or nighttime Petzl trail run is $35. In preparation for the event, the GOAL Foundation and Weber County have spent dozens of hours restoring flood-damaged trail systems and improving bike paths at the old landfill site. Weber County Recreation Director Jennifer Graham secured a $2000 grant from RAMP that was used help cover the costs of the trail improvement project. The GOAL Foundation hopes that recreational bike riders will continue to use the trails throughout the year. The GOAL Foundation has made the event family-friendly by offering a free kid’s zone, an expo, and festival village. During the race, spectators and exhibitors can enjoy music and food on the grassy expanse of the fort. A free outdoor community concert from the Codi Jordan band will take place following the awards ceremony. Fort Buenaventura is located at 2450 A Avenue in Ogden, Utah. Closing out the season with the Winter Dew Tour Championships is Snowbasin Resort, located east of Ogden, which has been chosen as the stage for the final event of the season. Showcasing the world’s top freeski and snowboard athletes competing in slopestyle and superpipe, the event will take place February 9-12, 2012 and will feature the year-end’s Awards Ceremony. Boasting the largest media platform in all of winter action sports, the Winter Dew Tour will be televised live on NBC with additional domestic and international programming reaching more than 200 million households worldwide. “It is terrific to be selected once again to host the season ending Winter Dew Tour Championship,” said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. “Last year’s event drove significant economic impact and brought tremendous international media exposure to Utah. The 2010-2011 Dew Cup champions include Bobby Brown (Freeski Slopestyle), Kevin Rolland (Freeski Superpipe), Jamie Anderson (Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle), Torstein Horgmo (Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle), Kelly Clark (Women’s Snowboard Superpipe) and Louie Vito (Men’s Snowboard Superpipe). Winter Dew Tour - The Winter Dew Tour consists of three major, multi-sport events spanning across the country. Each event features snowboard (superpipe and slopestyle) and freeskiing (superpipe and slopestyle). At season’s end, the overall point’s leaders are crowned year-end champions and awarded the prestigious Dew Cup.
