Show Volume XIX Issue V The Ogden Valley news Page 7 June 1, 2011 Announcements Obituaries Leona Blake Hadlock Naisbitt Ethel Leona Wilson Blake Hadlock Naisbitt passed away peacefully May 12, 2011 at her home. She was born January 23, 1912 in Ogden Utah to Norabelle Faulkner and Lewis Dunbar Leona Naisbitt Wilson. Leona married Charles Orville Blake in 1931; they later divorced. She married Lloyd Ray Hadlock in 1933; he preceded her in death. She married Edward Naisbitt, who also preceded her in death. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving faithfully in several callings, including the Primary. Leona was a member and helped organize the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Durfee. She was an active member of the Eagles Lodge. Leona enjoyed gardening, bowling, four-wheeling, and taking trips to Nevada. She loved spending time with Glen L. Farrell Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Glen L. Farrell, returned home to his Father in Heaven on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, surrounded by his family. Glen was born February 5, 1925 in Ogden, Utah. He was a son of Parley James Glen Farrell Farrell and Hazel Jackson Farrell. He was educated through the Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School. A fine athlete, he played basketball for Ogden High School. Their team was regional champions both years he played. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in a Carrier Aircraft Service Unit. Following the war, he attended Weber State University. Glen married his high school sweetheart, Norma Cross, June 21, 1946. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The couple had two sons and two daughters. They were deeply saddened at the death of their oldest son David, who died at the age of 16 from cancer. He was part owner of the Farrell Grain Company in Ogden, and worked there 15 years. He was co-owner of a Real Estate firm. He also worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a grain inspector, and was later employed as a Real Estate appraiser with the Weber County Assessor’s office for 20 years. He retired in 1990. Glen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and at the time of his death, was a High Priest in the Waterfall Canyon Ward. He had served in various call- Don Creager her family. Leona is survived by her sons, Charles “Bud” (Carol) Blake, Jack (Sharon) Hadlock, Bill (Eileen-deceased) Hadlock; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 20 greatgreat-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Also surviving are her sisters Lois (Melvin) Waite, Dona Haws, and Marva Willis. Leona had several foster-children she enjoyed over the years. She was preceded in death by her three husbands; 10 brothers and sisters; and daughter-inlaw, Eileen Hadlock. Funeral services were held Monday, May 16, 2011 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Officiating was Bishop Turner of the Rushton Heights Ward. Interment, Liberty City Cemetery, Liberty, Utah. The family would like to express special thanks to Laurel Luna, of Kindred Keepers, for her care of and devotion to Leona for the past 8 years. He was a member of the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, where he had served as a Vice President and Treasurer. He was a member of the Ogden Executive Club Association, and had served a term as president. An avid golfer, he had been a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club for 25 years. He was a member of the Weber State Wildcat Club, where he and Norma had received a “Super Fan” award for their many years of support for the school’s teams. Glen enjoyed working in his yard throughout the summer. His yard was always immaculate, and filled with beautiful flowers and shrubs. Glen and Norma enjoyed traveling, and had been on eight cruises and many trips throughout the county. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his son, Dr. Scott (Janis) Farell, North Salt Lake; and two daughters, Nancy (Dan) Wallwork, Huntsville; and Diane Farrell (John Vandal), Scottsdale, Arizona; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, with another on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David; a brother, Wayne; and a sister, Helen. The family would like to especially thank Cindi Allen, his loving nurse, for her dedicated care of our father. Glen will be greatly missed by his family. He had a great sense of humor, was a lot of fun to be around, and was the “the life of the party.” Funeral services were held at the Waterfall Canyon Ward, 3254 Polk Avenue, Ogden. Job well done Don; we love you until we meet again. Don left the love of his life Shirley “Liz” Hammons Creager to join his parents Lester and Alta Richins Creager on May 19, 2011. He died of a massive heart attack at McKay Dee Hospital. Don and Shirley were Deceased married in the Salt Lake Don Creager Temple on December 5, Braden Clyde Howe, 28, died May 12, 2011. 1952. He was born at his grandparent’s ranch Donald Stephens Child, 88, died May 13, 2011. in Echo, Utah on May 9, 1933. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and working Rodney Gene Pollard, 79, died May 18, 2011. with model trains and planes; leaving his family with many memories to cherish. He was employed by Ideal Cement Plant, Union Pacific Railroad, Hill Air Force Base and served his country in the Korean conflict being honorably discharged. He enjoyed teaching scouts and gun safety. He is missed by his wife and children: Bart (Becky), Green River, WY; Dea Clark, Pocatello, ID; Vicki (Richard) Linder, Sunset; Jan (Rick) Kamp, Syracuse; Jill (Terry) Wayman, Ogden; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; his 2 sisters: Marlene (Scott) Peterson, LeaAnn Helen N. Wallace Helen Norrine Wallace died peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Ogden Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born October 21, 1933 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, a daughter of Joseph and Kathleen Richard Evans Burke Nichols. Her early years were spent in East Boston, Massachusetts where she attended Saint Mary’s Catholic Elementary School and Holy Redeemer Catholic High School. In 1953 she met Edwin R. Wallace who was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte. They were married on July 11, 1954 in the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Sommerville, MA. She lived in Dallas, Texasa from 1954 until 1956 while her husband attended college. In 1957 her husband returned to the Navy and Helen spent the next 27 years traveling throughout the United States and overseas with her family. She lived in Morocco, North Africa, and later in Japan. Duty assignments of her husband took her to the Washington D.C. area and New England. Later she lived in Washington State and California. In 1978 she moved to Ogden. In 1984, when her husband retired from the Navy, they settled in Eden. While traveling she still found time to raise a family and work in numerous posi- Clyde Evans Clyde Arshal Evans, age 80 of LaVerkin, Utah passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in St. George, Utah of complications from pneumonia. He was born February 24, 1931 in Minersville, Utah, the firstborn child of nine to Arshal and Lela Davis Clyde Evans Evans. He married Beth Webb on April 27, 1952 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS temple on June 21, 1986. He died just 3½ hours short of their 59th wedding anniversary. He was a member of the 213th National Guard and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He lived in Henderson, Nevada for 38 years and retired from U.S. Lime after 28 years. tions throughout the country. While in Japan, she served as President of the Japanese/ American Officers Wives Club in Sasebo, Japan. Helen was active in the Officers Wives Club of the Former Defense Depot Ogden. She was a founding member of Saint Florence Catholic Church in Huntsville. Helen is survived by her husband Captain Edwin Wallace, USN (Ret); daughters Vicki Lynn (Doug) Hill, Susan Kay (Michael) Hoffman, and Julie Ann (Thomas) Wolf; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Paul Nichols of Winthrop, Massachusetts; and her sister Kathleen Fallon of Cleveland, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant daughter, Amy Marie. Funeral services were held at St. Florence Catholic Church in Huntsville. Family met with friends at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary where Holy Rosary was recited. Special thanks to Hospice for their care and compassionate service. Most of all, dad loved to sing western music and talk to people; it was his joy in life. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30, 2011 in the LaVerkin 5th Ward Chapel, 300 W. 100 S., LaVerkin, Utah. Interment in the LaVerkin City Cemetery. Huntsville 4th of July Committee Announces Speech Contest The Huntsville 4th of July Committee has announced a speech contest. Prizes will be awarded as follows: $500 for 1st place, $300 for 2nd place, and $200 for 3rd place. The committee’s goal is to encourage and increase appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy in America. As Americans, too often we take these freedoms for granted. There have been many sacrifices made in order to preserve these freedoms for our generation. We expect participants to address these freedoms and the special people who have provided them for us. Requirements 1. Those entering the speech contest must be between the ages of 15 and 18. 2. Reside within the Huntsville zip code area (84317). 3. Speeches must be typewritten. 4. Speech must have a cover page that includes the name, age, address, and phone number of the entrant. This information must be on the cover page only—not on the speech itself. 5. The speech must be no longer than 3½ minutes when spoken. 6. Submit a copy of the speech by June 17 to Willie Richardson, 7169 E. 200 S., Huntsville, Utah or mail it to PO BOX 96. 7. Contest day will be June 25 at the Huntsville Town Hall. It will be held at 11:00 a.m. 8. Speeches will be judged by non-resident judges. 9. Winning speeches will be given during Huntsville’s Patriotic Program on the 4th of July.
