Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XVIII Issue XXIV March 15, 2011 Announcements Returning Missionary Stephen Ormsbee, son of Jim and Betty Ormsbee of Eden, will return from his mission on March 17. He first served in the Guatemala Quetzaltenango Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Then, last summer, he was called to serve, and helped open the new Guatemala Retalhuleu Mission. He will speak in the Eden 2nd Ward Sacrament meeting on March 27, which begins at 10:50 a.m. The meeting will be held in the white church on the highway just north of Snowcrest Junior High School. Pictured left is Stephen Ormsbee. Eagle Scout Awards Shaun Shaw has received his Eagle Scout Award. For his Eagle project, he rebuilt bridges at the environmental center. A member of Troop 15, 18-year-old Shaun is the son of Jeff and Melanie Shaw of Eden. Tyson Chambers has received his Eagle Scout Award. For his Eagle project, he cleaned up and located markers in the Liberty Cemetery. Tyson is 18 years old, and the son of Gregg and Natalie Chambers of Eden. He is a member of Troop 15. Stallings of Eden celebrated his 60th birthday with an open house for family and friends on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Huntsville Stake Center George was born March 13, 1951 in Ogden to Lowell and Margaret George Stallings Grow Stallings. He attended what is now Canyon View School in Ogden and his bus driver, Lou Burley, was his special friend. Many people reached out to George who, for many years, wore his sheriff¹s badge and tried Irene Groberg Irene G. Groberg of Farr West was recently honored by her family with a dinner in celebration of her 85th birthday. She was born in Ogden on March 7, 1926, and grew up in Huntsville. A daughter of J. Leonard and S. Ethel Randall Grow, Irene Groberg she graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. She married Stanley R. Groberg July 2, 1945 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints Logan Temple. They have been married almost 66 years. to keep us all in line. He worked on the family farm milking cows every morning and evening, and knew all 70 cows by name. He hauled hay in the summers with many neighbor boys and cousins who were employed on the farm over the years George loved to play basketball and cheered on the Dallas Cowboys football team for many seasons. He read the sports section of the newspaper daily to keep up on Weber State sports as well. George is shy but has a great sense of humor and loves to tease. He is a water color artist and his art class is the highlight of his week. George lives in Eden with his sisters, Jan Wight, Sharon Vause, and Sandra Jenkins. He has many nieces and nephews who adore him. She has six children: L. Elaine Miller, Salt Lake City; Dennis C. and Chris Groberg, Lake Villa, Ill.; Connie R. and Alan Hepford, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sheron and Danny Leyba, Roy; Debra and Gary Buxton, Eden; and Douglas P. and Karen Groberg, Farr West. She has 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She is a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and has been a member of the same bowling league for more than 40 years. She is active in the LDS Church and has held various positions. Her interests over the years have included traveling, bowling, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, soap operas, and the Farr West Senior Center where she is a volunteer. She and her husband have been members of the Farr West Social Club for 63 years. Wedding Greaney - Rasmussen Pete Rasmussen, son of Marsha and Mark Rasmussen of Eden, and his lovely wife Kati Greaney, daughter of Nancy Jones and Tim Greaney of St. Louis, Missouri, were married on September 25, 2010. The ceremony took place at Ano Nuevo State Park north of Santa Cruz, California. The bride and groom’s friends grew hundreds of sunflowers for the wedding. Once vows were exchanged and garlic was ceremoniously planted by all four parents, the newlyweds paddled into the cold Pacific Ocean and threw the sunflowers into the sea as an offering to the Ocean. Pete and Kati are currently traveling through Cuba on their wedding gift, a turquoise tandem bicycle. Pictured left are Kati and Pete Rasmussen. Obituaries R. June Carver June Carver returned home to be with the Lord, February 27, 2011 . She was at home, With her family by her side. June was born February 23, 1923 in Sydney, Australia, to Robert and Millie Arundell. During World II she worked for the U.S. R. June Carver Army in Sydney. During that time she was a maid of honor in a wedding and met her husband James, the best man. She married James Whitaker Carver on August 14, 1943 in Sydney. June came to the United States in 1945. She and her husband settled in Ogden, Utah. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage together. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She Beverly Sudweeks Gibson Our mother passed away March 3, 2011 in Ogden, Utah. She is loved and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Beverly was born December 5, 1927 in Beverly Gibson Nephi, Utah to Richard and Flossie Sudweeks. When she was 20 years old and in college, she met Donald Gibson, from Malad, and later married him in the Logan Temple. They lived in Tremonton for more than 50 years until Don died in 2000. Beverly then joined her daughter Tami’s family in Eden to spend her last decade in the company of grandchildren. Beverly and Don built their life in Tremonton as a team, beginning with working together in their upholstery shop and later raising twin teenage daughters late in life. loved to spend her free time in her garden and at the family cabin on the South Fork River. June was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ogden, Utah. She believed in serving her community and helping those In need. She was also an active member in American Baptist Women, Church Women United, Eastern Star and she volunteered her time with Jobs Daughters. June retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1983, after 25 years of service. June is survived by her husband James; children, Robert (Francene) of Eden and Julie (Ron) Hendricks of Ogden; grandchildren, Clay (Tina) Carver, Richard (Corrie) Carver, Chad (Tiffany) Hendricks, Ryan (Hayley) Heridricks and Michelle (Vaughn) Martinez and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Vonnie and her son, Gregory. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at The First Baptist Church of Ogden, 2519 Jefferson Avenue. Beverly was active in the LDS church, accepted leadership callings, and served in the Logan Temple with Don. Beverly Sudweeks Gibson is preceded in death by the short life of her daughter Marty Ann (age 3) and longer life of her husband Don (married 53 years). She is survived by her five daughters: Debbra Wheatley (Kimbal), Geri Dawn Allred (Denny), Mindy Deters (Jeff), Cami Hodson (Justin), and Tami Satterthwaite (Taylor). Beverly and Don leave behind 34 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to carry on their legacy. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, 111 N. 100 E., in Tremonton, Utah. Interment in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery. Deceased Beth Louise Shupe, 91, died February 25, 2011. Donna B. Stanger Minor, 86, died February 27, 2011.
