Show Volume XVII Issue XX The Ogden Valley news Page April 1, 2010 Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Conference on Biblical Prophecy Offered in Liberty Fellowship Bible Church of Liberty will host a conference on biblical prophecy on Saturday Sunday, April 17 and April 18. The guest speaker will be Dr. Richard Grubbs, founder and Day— Volunteer to help clean Ogden Canyon and director of Biblical Ministries, Inc., of Lubbock Texas. Earth Day is Thursday, April 22. To help celebrate, the Ogden Canyon Club is holding its bi-annual spring Canyon Cleanup on Saturday, April 24. The Canyon Club hosts this event twice a year—once in the spring and once in the fall. This will be their 14th consecutive year of serving the community by working to keep Ogden Canyon clean. “Each time we hold a cleanup, spring and fall, we fill a whole dump truck full of trash, and that’s just from the garbage that is found on the sides of the road in Ogden Canyon. That’s a lot of trash,” commented Keith Rounkles of the Ogden Canyon Club. If you are willing to participate in this year’s spring cleanup, meet at the Alaskan Inn at 9:00 a.m. where you will receive mapped instructions and assignments for the cleanup. Everyone’s help is needed. At noon, after the completion of the cleanup effort, there will be an outside BBQ lunch pro- vided at The Oaks Restaurant. There will also be a raffle with a chance to win many great prizes. The Canyon Club is asking everyone to come out and help with this year’s cleanup effort. “How often do we do something that jeopardizes our environment? Everyday. We can at least come together as a community and spend three hours of our time to give something back,” states Rounkles. “If you’re not going to come out and help with the Canyon Cleanup, at least do something to participate in Earth Day. Combine efforts within your neighborhood, support the local Sierra Club, or involve your church groups in an environmental friendly project.” If you can not attend the Canyon Cleanup and would still like to contribute in some way, donations are welcome to help cover the cost of lunch; also, prize donations for the raffle, which are also greatly appreciated. For additional information, or to contribute, contact Keith Rounkles at 801-668-8844. Sons of the Utah Pioneers Plan Spring Meetings By Richard Ensign The Ogden Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers (SUP) was a success, and two more meetings have been planned for April and May. On Friday night, March 19, the Ogden Chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers held their annual Spring Dinner. The group enjoyed a fine meal, and were privileged to have for their entertainment the Taylors. Steve and Terri provided some wonderful western music and humor—Steve on his bass viola, and Terri utilizing his two-time national champion yodeler skills. The organization’s next event is scheduled for April 22. Daniel B Kuhn, a former Amtrak official, will talk about America’s passenger trains. He will discuss facts about trains from the 1890s to the present. He will also present a slide show that highlights the trains that served the West. The show includes information about contemporary Amtrak scenic routes, as well as his own experiences with passenger trains. This will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Ogden Valley Library in Huntsville. Also planned for May is a trek to the home of Nick Breeze who lives in Ogden Canyon. Mr. Breeze has been collecting histories, pictures, and other memorabilia about the Hermitage Hotel and Ogden Canyon—the hotel being a popular stopping place in years past. He will share this history with attendees. The trek to the Breeze residence is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, May 8. The exact time will be announced later. We invite anyone interested in attending these events to join us. For more information, contact organizer Lyle Allen (801-745-6636), or Richard Ensign at (801-745-2331). Second Annual Brett Earl Family Ski Benefit Slated By Gregg Greer, President/CEO Powder Mountain As many may remember, last year we lost a friend and valued member of the community when the Earl family lost their husband and father. With lots of help from individual volunteers and local businesses, Powder Mountain reopened the Sundown Lodge and Lift after the ski season had ended and held the 1st Annual Brett Earl Family Ski Benefit. All proceeds were donated to the Earl family who has been able to stay in their home here in the Valley with us. It turned out to be an amazing day for everyone involved—for everyone who came together and donated their time, energy, and resources to make such a big difference for the Early family In addition to donating the proceeds from ski lift tickets, and lodge food and beverage sales, a large portion of the money raised came from generous donations to the silent auction that was held that day. Powder Mountain would like to ask for your support again this year for the 2nd Annual Brett Earl Family Ski Benefit to be held April 16, 2010 from noon to 8:00 p.m. We are hoping to gather gift baskets, gift certificates, and/or other items that can be auctioned off and donated to the Earl Family. If you are interested in helping, please contact Amy Greer at greerhometokyo@yahoo. com or 801-745-2598. She will be happy to come and pick up donated items at your convenience. We also hope you will be able to join us on the 16th for a fund day of skiing, sledding, snow cat rides, music, food, and more. We intend to make this an annual event that brings our community together in support of community members. Thank you, in advance, for your support!
