Johansen on exhibit at the Library “Angels Among Us,” an art exhibition featuring pastel portraits created by J.R. Johansen will be on display in the Lorna Wattis Swanson Gallery of the Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville. The artist would like to invite the community to view this portrait showing of individuals who are either in treatment for cancer, or other childhood diseases, and of individuals who have passed away. In each case, the parents and family members are pleased to display the portraits of their loved ones and to talk about their struggles. J.R. Johansen is an American artist who has roots in Denmark and England. He earned a degree in Fine Arts from Weber State University and a degree in Graphic Arts from Brigham Young University. J.R. has painted scenes from his travels in Europe, Asia, The Middle East, and Africa. His fascination with people and culture has influenced his desire to depict individuals. Of the 400 or more drawings and paintings he has completed in the last 25 years, the vast majority have been pastel portraits. Johansen states, “Each portrait looks beautiful. Alongside it will be hung a biography of each child. This biography will certainly add to the emotion of the exhibit. My own experiences have more than paid me back for the time I have spent painting these portraits. I truly hope that the lives of others will be touched by the stories from the families who have endured so much. To all of you I say ‘Thank you’ for allowing me to be an intimate part of your family’s life.” J.R. Johansen, along with the parents and family members of individuals in the portraits displayed, will be present for an opening reception that is open to the public on December 23, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This poignant exhibition will be on display at the Ogden Valley Branch Library from December 23, 2009 through February 10, 2010. For more information about this event, please call 801-337-2660.
