Show Page The Ogden Valley news Volume XVII Issue XII December 1, 2009 POWERVILLAINS cont. from page 1 Sharon Holmstrom, Entertainment Committee Chair, commented, “Our vision was to bring a diverse group of citizens together for a worthwhile cause—non-political—a collective of citizens willing to stand up for the rights of their neighbors. This is what makes the Valley the Valley—individuals who live by the idea that you can’t trample on the rights of a few neighbors without trampling on everyone else’s. At first, we didn’t know if we could get broad support, but more and more people stepped up and asked, ‘What can I do?’ Everyone pulled together—selling tickets, buying tickets, acting, performing, helping in many ways. “Because we have a tough economy right now, I know what a sacrifice it was to buy the tickets for the dinner and play, because they were expensive, but those who did and came, did so for their neighbors. Support came from all corners of the Valley and from outside the Valley. It was an amazing thing to see—people from diverse backgrounds coming together to offer their support. It’s a rare thing.” Members of the fundraising team include Chair Steve Clarke, Frank Cumberland, Kathy Dowell, Jim Halay, Sharon Holmstrom, Kirk Langford, Cindy Maher, Chelse Maughan, Julie and Ross Mertlich, Deja Mitchell, Dick and Velma Reeder, Art Roscoe, Elsa Svensson, Trudy Tesch, Darla VanZeben, Richard Webb, Kimball Wheatley, and Larry and Sharon Zini. Chair Steve Clarke commented, “Our friendships are stronger, our commitment is more evident, and the results of the community and fundraising team during the last five months are now secure. Each of you has given generously of your time and resources. It couldn’t have happened without each person. . . . The bonding expressed by community members is something we had only hoped for, but is an added accomplishment.” Representative Gage Froerer, who also Birkbeck wrote and directed the play. Eugene and Ruth Bailey, John Oliver, Rich and Kathy Peterson, Michelle Burnett, Elise Summers, Linda Clarke, and Dennis Maher worked behind the scenes with the props. Richard Arbogast was on keyboard. Kim Wheatley summarized the event, “The war chest is no longer empty, knowledge about the cause has expanded dramatically, and support along with it. [Powder Mountain], the PERPS now know that the people of Powderville are not in this alone and their scheme is in more trouble than they thought, and everyone had attended the event, stated, “This is democracy a good time. . . . But perhaps, best of all, the fabric of our Ogden Valley community is more and grassroots politics at its very best.” The Union Grill Restaurant catered the dinner for attendees who dined with dinner music provided by harpist Becky Mertlich. There was also a silent auction, the infamous melodrama, and a final big screen DVD presentation, prepared by Jack Wright, explaining Powder Mountain issues. Music for the evening was also provided by Shades of Grey tightly woven and a bit brighter . . . .” with Terry Hampton as sound technician. Paul “The snake oil was bottled February 2007 when House Bill 466 was jammed through in the 11th hour of the legislature. It allowed a town to be formed by non-resident developers without a vote of town residents and without a financial feasibility requirement. . . . Meanwhile, the good people of Weber County are mobilizing to drive the snakes from Eden. Thanks for helping the 50 families caught up in this nightmare.” Huntsville resident Larry Zini commented, “Citizens are being asked to please visit the Ogden Valley Forum www.ogden-valley. blogspot.com and view a new petition that will be sent to the Utah State legislature when the legislative session begins in January. Please sign your name, and provide your zip, e-mail and comments, if any. Each voter is eligible to sign, and any Utah citizen is eligible. This is not just an Ogden Valley issue.” MentiOn this ad tO ReceiVe 20% OFF “We live whirlwind lives, always traveling between concerts, tours and our primary residence in Nashville, TN.
