Show Page The Ogden Valley news Volume XVII Issue XII December 1, 2009 Announcements Young Womanhood Awards Weddings Marlee Satterthwaite has earned her Young Womanhood Recognition Award, which is given to young women who have completed various projects for personal growth and for church and community service through the Young Womanhood Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marlee, age 13, is the daughter of Taylor and Tami Satterthwaite of Eden, and is a member of the Wolf Creek Ward. She is a student at Snowcrest Jr. High. Marlee Satterthwaite Birthdays Ned F. Clark Ned F. Clark of Layton celebrated his 80th birthday with a family dinner on Saturday, Nov. 14. H e w a s born on Nov. 16, 1929, to F. Louis and K a t i e L a Vern Gardner Clarke. He married Betty Grant in 1948. They Ned F. Clark were later divorced. He then married Sallye Malloy in 1969. He grew up in Eden and moved to Layton. He attended Eden Elementary School, Don McEntire D o n W. McEntire of West Point will celebrate his 80th birthday at a family dinner. He was born on Nov. 15, 1929, in Ogden, the sixth child of William R. and Rosene Woodfield McEntire. His sisters and brothers Don McEntire are Virginia Stallings, Laura Hawkes, Ross McEntire, Helen Slater, Jay McEntire and Don McEntire. He grew up in Huntsville and served an LDS mission to the Netherlands as a young man. He married LaRae Porter in 1952 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They have five chil- Huntsville Junior High School and Weber High School. He worked at the General Depot on 2nd Street and Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 41 years and nine months of civil service. His children and their spouses are Jerrie Clarke, Haines, Alaska; Debra Adams, Layton; Gail and Tom Woolsey, North Ogden; Al Clark, Arizona; and Kristi and Darren Durbano, Syracuse. He has 19 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren. His sisters are LuJean Taylor, Salt Lake City; Betty Marshall, Pueblo, Colo.; Sharon and Rulon Booth, Surprise, Ariz.; and brother-in-law Bob Johnson, Layton. dren: Guy McEntire, Gwen Fellows, Dawn Zaugg, Kellie Cooke and Patti Stanger. He has 18 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren with one more on the way. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean conflict. He has worked at Hill Air Force Base and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992. He also worked part time for two local mortuaries. He and his wife served two LDS missions to the Netherlands from 1993 to 1994 and from 2000 to 2001. He has served in many capacities in the LDS Church: high councilor, bishop’s councilor, gospel doctrine teacher for most of his life and as a Scoutmaster. He has been an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for 11 years. He enjoys reading, gardening and Brigham Young University football and says he can spot a pheasant in a field a mile away. Janae and Andrew Snowden Janae and Andrew Snowden Janae Davis and Andrew Chase Snowden were married on Saturday, November 7 at the Ivy Lane Reception Center in Ogden, Utah. The ceremony was performed by Clinton Mayor Mitch Adams. A reception at the Ivy Lane Reception Center was held that evening in their honor. The bride is the daughter of Scott and Julie Davis of Clinton. Parents of the groom are Michael and Alicia Blickfeldt of Eden, and Scott Snowden of Fruitland. The bride chose Nicole Dixon as her matron of honor. Amanda Valentine and Beth Carson were bridesmaids. Spencer McKinney was best man. Vernon Mortensen and Colby Cooper were groomsmen. Kayton James was ring bearer. She graduated from Northridge High School and received a dental assistant certificate from the Davis Applied Technology College. She is employed at West Point Dental and Sonora Grill. He graduated from Weber High School and is a business administration major at Weber State University, where he is also employed with the Veterans Administration Office. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Eight months of that service was spent as a section chief in the artillery unit in Iraq. The new couple will make their home in North Ogden. Their honeymoon was spent in Park City. Obituaries Arie Koolmees Surrounded by family in the peace of his home, Arie Koolmees, 61, passed in his sleep in Mountain Green, Utah on Friday, November 13, 2009. He battled with pancreatic canArie Koolmees cer for the last seven months. The youngest of four siblings, he was born to Arie and Phyllis Koolmees on September 25, 1948 in Long Beach, CA. He grew up in Bellflower, CA and met the love of his life, Cara Koolmees, while studying at Cerritos Junior College. They wed on May 13, 1972 in Downey, CA. He graduated in 1971 from Fullerton State with a degree in mechanical engineering. He started his career at Kaiser Steel and moved on to TRW, and retired as a Systems Engineer from Northrop Grumman following more than 23 years of service. He was a true engineer, fixing anything and everything around the house. A lover of the outdoors, he was often found zooming by people on his favorite ski run and driving his four-wheeler with his dog Cooper. He was an avid boater, fisherman, and water skier, with frequent family camping trips to Flaming Gorge, Utah. He most loved spending time with his wife and children. He was an extremely proud husband and father. He was an active father; he served as his son’s little league coach and taught his daughter and son to water and snow ski. He leaves behind his wife, Cara; son Kael and his wife Nicki from Herndon, VA; and daughter Amber from San Diego, CA. His siblings include his brother Dick and his wife Pat Luce; brother Bob and wife Carol Luce; and his sister Katherine Condon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arie and Phyllis Koolmees. Memorial services were held Friday, November 20 at the Community United Methodist Church, 163 West 4800 South in Washington Terrace, Utah. Funeral Directors, Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
