Cherry on February 28, 1942 in Evanston, Wyoming. They had six children and sixty-three wonderful years together. Throughout her life she worked for Lowe’s, R.L. Samuels, and the Weber County School District. In her spare time she loved to play golf with her three best friends. She was also an avid quilter. But her favorite thing to do was spend time with her loving family. Wanda was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple for several years, which she loved dearly. Wanda is survived by five children: Pam (Bob) Pringle, Bryan (Janet) Cherry, Kim (Debbie) Cherry, Jodie (Thomas) Meckes, and Brett (Carol) Cherry; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and three brothers, Jay Holmes, Doug (Peggy) Holmes, Denny (Beverly) Holmes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen F. Cherry; one son, Scott (Donna) Cherry; parents Etta Ione and Parley C. Holmes; four brothers, Wayne Holmes, Dean Holmes, Lynn Holmes, and Udell Holmes; and two sisters, Lola Holmes Arnold and Melba Holmes Cheney. The family would like to thank Crestwood Care Center for all they provided for her, with special thanks to Dixie Stott and Michelle Martin. We would also like to thank Jolene Dixon for all the time she spent with her. Wanda, you will be truly missed. You were a very special woman and your life will be cherished for years to come. We love you. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Leavitt’s Mortuary. Interment, Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park in Ogden. forced his retirement. After surviving two heart attacks, Ed was passionate about running. He was seen running daily in the South Ogden/Weber State areas. Headstrong and opinionated in many aspects of his life, Ed was also enthusiastic and encouraged his family to run and be healthy. Ed will be missed greatly by his mother, wife, four children, and six-and-a-half grandchildren: Nicolle (Joey) Haws and their children Brinlee, Megan, and Emery, Layton; Matthew (Sharee) VanBeekum and their children Carson and Brooklyn, Layton; Michelle (Eric) Stratford and their son Will, with another son due in December, Pleasant View; and Janelle (Tyler) White, Riverdale. Ed is also survived by his four brothers, John (Nancy); Rudy (Terri); Ron (Jacquie); and David (Ralyn); his parents-in-law, Frank and Lois Anderson, Morgan; Jeanette’s five siblings and their spouses; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Jacobus and grandmother Nelly. Ed was an active member of the LDS Church and loved serving on the High Council. He and Jeanette took two Church history tours to Nauvoo, Palmyra, and Canada, and was a fascinated student with all aspects of Church history and its early founders. Every July, Ed spent time with his children and the Anderson family camping near Bear Lake. He also loved participating actively in his children’s sports activities, volunteering often as a coach, and cheering them on. Special thanks to all his doctors, to his hospice nurse Julie Lee, and Ed and Jeanette’s co-workers at UTA, and McKayDee Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the South Ogden 8th Ward chapel, 720 E. Nancy Drive, South Ogden. Interment, Huntsville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at <www.myers-mortuary.com> Wedding Wanda Cherry Wanda Holmes Cherry Wanda Holmes Cherry passed away peacefully on Thursday July 23, 2009. She was born January 19, 1923 in Liberty, Utah to Etta Ione and Parley C Holmes. She mar- Edward Paul VanBeekum Bryan and Meghan Roberts Gill – Roberts Meghan L. Gill and Bryan L. Roberts were united in marriage on August 1, 2009 at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Adam S. Linton. A garden reception was held in their honor at the home of the bride’s parents later that evening. The bride is the daughter of Jon Paul and Rhonda C. Gill of Huntsville. Parents of the groom are Dorene Roberts of North Ogden and Bret and Robin Roberts of Huntsville. The bride chose her sister Amanda Kap as matron of honor. Chance Hansen performed the duties of best man. Amy Gill served as bride’s maid and Jon Barker served as groomsman. Other attendants were Makenna Kap, Taylor Gill, and Hannalee Silver. Both are graduates of Weber High School. Meghan attended Southern Utah State University and Weber State University. She is employed with the Internal Revenue Service. Bryan attended Snow College and is attending Weber State University. He is a rancher in Ogden Valley. They will reside in Huntsville after a honeymoon to Southern California. Our big, powerful husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend said goodbye to us July 24, 2009 to join his Heavenly Father, his own father, and grandparents. Ed was Edward diagnosed in December VanBeekum 2008 with liver cancer. During these last few months, his family has been blessed by many acts of kindness that we will never forget. Ed was born November 20, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jacobus and Margrietha Jelderda VanBeekum. A proud 1970 graduate of Weber High School, Ed was a true Warrior! He formed many lasting relationships and loved his classmates, especially his “Valley” buddies. There, he enjoyed and was accomplished in all sports, particularly basketball and running. Later he attended Weber State University where he met his eternal companion Jeanette Anderson. They were sealed for time and eternity June 6, 1974 in the LDS Ogden Temple. In Ed’s early years, he hauled hay in the Huntsville area and also ran the ski lift at Snowbasin. A bus driver for Utah Transit Authority for 33 years, Ed always ran “his” bus in his way and on time, even in the worst storms. MLS# 865350 Obituaries Eugene Broby Emil Eugene Marknsen Broby, “Gene Broby,” passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, two days before his 81st birthday, surrounded by his loving wife. He was born July 27, Eugene Broby 1928 to Emil Petersen R. and Henriette Karoline Marknsen Broby, who passed away three months after giving birth to him. He was then raised by Charles “Charlie” P. and Etta Nelson Broby in Logan, Utah. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Yuvona (Crowther) Broby, and their four children: Wes (Carolee) Broby, Danville, CA; Kim (Barbara) Broby, Yuma, AZ; Ricky Broby, Brigham City; and Holly (Dennis) Larsen, Edmonton, Alberta Canada; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Grace and Patty Ann, and a half sister, Leora. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one great-grandson. Gene served with the U.S. Military from October 1946 to February of 1948, which included a deployment to Japan. Following his military service, he and Yuvona settled in Brigham City to raise their family while he worked as a painter for the Ogden Depot (2nd Street). He took an early retirement and secured a job working for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the custodian of the Brigham City 6th and 9th Wards. Due to his outstanding performance, a member of his ward offered him a job as the maintenance director of the Wolf Creek Resort in Eden where he worked and played. He especially enjoyed playing golf there with his sons and son-in-law, until retiring. He spent the remainder of his years enjoying his family, friends, and loved ones. Gene was a faithful member of the Willard 5th LDS Ward and was a loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, and friend. He was a wonderful example for all to follow and he will be truly missed. The family would like to thank Integrity Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided during the past few weeks of his life.
