Show Page The Ogden Valley news Volume XVI Issue VII April 1, 2009 Announcements Births Birthdays Katelyn Lee Francis was born March 21, 2009 in Ogden, Utah. She weighed 7 lb. 7 oz., and was 20 inches long. Katelyn is the daughter of Kyle and Christy Francis of Pleasant View, and granddaughter of Larry and Shanna Francis of Eden and Blaine and Melanie Clifford of North Ogden. As part of the Francis family, Katelyn joins her soon-to-be 2-year-old sister Madelyn. Pictured left is Katelyn Lee Francis. Eagle Scouts Josh Mayhew, 15, Troop 31, Eden 1st LDS Ward, has received his Eagle Scout award. Josh is the son of Ken and Sharon Mayhew of Eden, and attends Snowcrest Junior High School. For his Eagle project, he painted a part Josh Mayhew of the inside of the new Bowery at Eden Park. J. Drew Peterson, 16, Troop 31, Eden 1st LDS Ward, has received his Eagle Scout award. Drew is the son of Lynn and Maureen Peterson of Eden, and is a sophomore at Weber High School. For his Eagle project, J. Drew Peterson Drew shoveled snow away from fire hydrants all around the North Fork area in Liberty. Kesler Martin Kesler Martin, 14, Troop 31, Eden 1st LDS Ward, has received his Eagle Scout award. Kesler is the son of Shane and Laura Martin of Eden, and attends Snowcrest Junior High School. For his Eagle project, Kesler restored a park bench and will be installing it in the Eden Park Ty Robins, 17, Troop 31, Eden 1st LDS Ward, has received his Eagle Scout award. Ty is the son of Jim and Lucy Robins of Eden, and attends Weber High School. For his Eagle project, Ty raised the funds and organized the establishment of a World War II Memorial Monument for placement in Eden’s park. The memorial commemorates those Eden residents w h o left the community to serve in the war. Ty Robins Arthur Mumford Arthur G. Mumford recently celebrated his 90th birthday at a dinner party with his family. Born March 23, 1919 in Ogden, he is the son of George and Millie Mumford. Arthur Mumford He graduated from Davis High School and Weber College with an associate degree in auto mechanics, and used those skills to work at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 33 years. He served for more than four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Florence Smith on August 21, 1942. They have five children: Jim and Kathy Mumford, Gary and Brenda Mumford, Rex and Debbie Mumford, Scott and Doris Mumford, and Julie and Brett Wilding. He also has 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He built his home in Sunset. He and his wife managed a fruit and vegetable farm before moving to Huntsville in 1960, where he built a home on five acres. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he especially enjoyed serving for many years as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster. He helped his sons earn their Eagle Scout awards. He enjoyed membership in the Good Sam Travel Club, traveling around Utah and other western states with his travel trailer. His enjoyment of fishing and hunting with his family continues with the elk hunt in the Uinta Mountains this past fall. Woodworking has been his lifelong hobby, with many pieces of his furniture in use in the homes of family members. The past few years, he has enjoyed helping his son, Rex, build a home nearby. Obituaries Everett L. Olson Everett L. Olson passed away March 20, 2009. He was born to George & Fannie Tippetts Olson in Afton, Wyoming on March 25, 1922. He graduated from Everett Olson Star Valley High School. He married Rita Dable (deceased), Marian Lois Daniels (deceased), and Rufina “Dolly” Framil. Everett honorably and proudly served in the US Air Force as a flight engineer during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired as MSGT in 1971. He enjoyed telling war stories, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. He owned and operated Olson’s Washer and Dryer Repair Service. Everett was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held many callings throughout the years. A special thanks to the Hobbs Creek Ward Relief Society, Applegate Homecare & Hospice, and to everyone who has supported our family during these past few months. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, sister, son (Kenneth Olson), and daughter (Diana (Dennis) Griffin). Everett is survived by his wife; Rufina “Dolly” Olson, Layton, UT; and sons/daughters Dennis (Bonnie) Olson, Huntsville, UT; Judy (Mark-deceased) Smith, Hooper, UT; Pamela (Weldon) Jenks, Nampa, ID; Pauline (Kenith) Chambers, Batesville, IN; Janice Olson White, St. George, UT; Linda (Tim) Mahoney, West Point, UT; Florida (Chuck) Strom, American Falls, ID; Edgar (Marlyn) Olson, Sunset, UT; Renante (Luz) Olson, Clearfield, UT; Roy (Marilou) Olson, Pearl City, HI; Julie (Tim) Williams, Buckeye, AZ; Larry Olson, Martinez, GA; Dolly Olson, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; 35 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hobbs Creek Chapel, 2510 North Church Street, Layton, Utah. Interment will be at Roy City Cemetery with military honors from HAFB Honor Guard. Deceased Halver B. Garner, 92, died March 8, 2009.
