Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XVI Issue VI March 15, 2009 Announcements Weddings Births Klein Scott Knudtson was born January 9, 2009 at 11:32 a.m. He weighed 8 lbs and was 19¼ inches long. Klein is the son of Emery and Annette Knudtson of Brentwood, California. Grandparents are Scott and Linda Knudtson of Liberty and Eileen Larsen of Orem. Great Grandparents are Marv and Judy Knudtson of Eden; Joe and Mary Lou Allen of North Ogden; Bob Hunter of Knights Ferry, California; and Beth Larsen of Springville. Shaw - Erickson Jessica Shaw of Liberty and Danny Erickson of Pleasant View were united in marriage on February 13, 2009 in the Bountiful LDS Temple. A reception celebrating their marriage was held that evening in the LDS church in Pleasant View, Utah. Jessica is the daughter of Blaine and Tia Shaw of Liberty. She is a graduate of Weber High School and Weber LDS Seminary. She is attending Weber State University. Danny is the son of Dave and the late Julie Erickson of Pleasant View. Danny graduated from Weber High School and Weber LDS Seminary also. He served an LDS mission to Oklahoma. After a honeymoon to San Diego, the couple will live in Ogden where they will work and continue their education. Klein Scott and Linda Knudston are pictured left. Young Womanhood Awards The following young women have earned their Young Womanhood Recognition Award, which is given to young women who have completed various projects for personal growth and for church and community service through the Young Womanhood Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Taylor Pullen age 18, daughter of and Toni Visser of Liberty, received her Young Wo m a n h o o d Recognition Award. Taylor graduated from Weber High School and is currently going to Taylor Pullen college and working. She helped put together a ward music program and also participated as a member of that choir. Taylor loves to have fun riding four wheelers and snowmobiling. Kalli Chambers Kalli Chambers age 18, daughter of Ronnie and Rose Chambers of Liberty, received her Young Wo m a n h o o d Recognition Award. Kalli is a Senior Class Officer at Weber High and participated in raising money for quarters and cans. She accomplished her goal of reading the entire Book of Mormon. Kalli loves hanging out with her friends, being outdoors, and going on family trips. J a m i e Foremaster age 15, daughter of Brian and Yolanda Foremaster of Liberty, received her Young Wo m a n h o o d Recognition Award. Jamie is a sophomore class Jamie Foremanster officer at Weber High School. She accomplished her goal of practicing and performing the violin for a special performance. Jamie loves playing the violin, drawing, snowboarding, and singing in the car. Katelyn Harrop age 16, daughter of Brett and Jenny Harrop of Liberty, received her Young Wo m a n h o o d Recognition Award. Katelyn plays soccer and basketball for Weber High Katelyn Harrop School. She accomplished her goal of redecorating her bedroom from start to finish. She loves to play sports, snowboard, and play the piano. NOTICE OF ANNEXATION OF SHEEP CREEK SUBDIVISION PHASE 4 INTO POWDER MOUNTAIN WATER SEWER IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT This is a notice that Powder Mountain Water Sewer District (PMWSID) will be holding a Public Hearing on APRIL, 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. concerning the annexation of SHEEP CREEK SUDDIVISION PHASE 4, at the lodge at Powder Mountain Ski Resort, according to Utah Code Annotated 17B-1410. The land that is proposed to be annexed into PMWSID is the SHEEPCREEK DEVELOPMENT PHASE 4 in Weber County, which includes lots 119 through 142. A description of the property boundary is included at the bottom of the page. The proposed annexation will not increase service fees. If you have any questions please feel free to contact PMWSID at (801) 745-0924. If you would like to protest this annexation you can also submit a written protest to PMWSD. Jessica and Danny Erickson Bingham - Brown Michele Bingham and the late Norman Barry Bingham are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Kiera Michele to Matthew Sheldon Brown on Friday, March 6, 2009 in the St. George LDS Temple. Kiera was born and raised in Eden and Huntsville, Utah. After her graduation from Weber High School in 2003, she attended Utah State University. In 2005 she interned at a children’s hospital in Romania. In 2007 she was called to serve in the Washington D.C. North LDS Mission, and recently returned home. She is currently attending Utah State University and will graduate in December with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Matthew was born and raised in Beaver, Utah. He is the son of James and Shelley Brown. Matthew graduated from Beaver High School in 2002. He then attended Utah State University. In 2003 he was called to serve in the Taiwan Taichung LDS Mission. Upon returning home he returned to Utah State University where he graduated with a Business Marketing degree in May 2008. Kiera and Matthew Brown Matthew is currently building a financial services business. A reception was held in their honor at the Harrisville LDS Church on 435 West Harrisville Road (Highway 89) in Harrisville, Utah on March 7, 2009. Birthdays Loraine Groothuis Groothuis was honored for her 90th birthday with an open house for family and friends. 7The celebration was held March 14 at the Legacy House of Ogden. Loraine was born March 16, 1919 in Indianola, Nebraska to Loraine German immigrants Fred Groothius and Emma Unger. She attended Germanspeaking parochial schools during her early childhood, later attending public schools in McCook, Nebraska. Raised on a farm, she has written many stories about farm life in the early 1900s as a legacy for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She studied nursing in secondary school and for a time was a practical nurse at a local hospital. While working there, she met the love of her life, Tom Groothuis, the jitterbug champion of McCook. His carpentry trade took them ever westward, from Iowa to Nebraska, on to Wyoming, and finally to Ogden. He died in 2001. She has three children: Sharon and Dave Holmstrom, E den; Marion and Judy Groothuis, Boise, Idaho; and Peggy Jones, Ogden. She has six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She enjoys ceramics and oil painting, and served as a volunteer for Elim Lutheran Church and at the Legacy House. She has received several awards for volunteer community service. Obituaries Larry H. Miller Passes Away “After all, you know this guy.” That was the slogan and catchphrase of one of Utah’s most-successful business legend—Larry Horne “Larry H.” Miller. Best known as the proud owner of the Utah Jazz, Miller also managed 39 different automobile dealerships throughout the west. He also ran various other companies and organizations such as Prestige Financial, Jordan Commons, Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres, KJZZ-TV, Miller Motorsports Park, the chain of FANZZ sport apparel stores, and the EnergySolutions Arena (formerly known as the Delta Center). On top of all of that power and accomplishment, Miller was one for charity.
