In celebration of Teen Tech Week, teens from all over the Valley are invited to showoff their best guitar shredding and dance skills. The Ogden Valley Branch Library will be hosting the first annual Guitar Hero and Dance Revolution gaming tournament. An afternoon-long tournament will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at 3:30 pm. Teens will compete in head to head duels until a grand champion of each game is crowned. The stars will come out to show off their moves and prove they are up to the challenge. Fantastic prizes will be awarded to winners in each category. So, if you want be crowned a champ, show up like a pro and make it happen! Even if you’ve never played any video game in your life, come take part in the action. This tournament is FREE and open to all teens. Mark your calendar and bring the entire family to enjoy the fun at this annual celebration—a “Fun Family Full of Laughter and Surprise Event.” Go digging in your garage to find what you need to create the fastest, craziest, creative, and most unusual form of transportation to get down the hill at Wolf Mountain. Just about anything goes. Push, pull, ride, slide, or drag your way to prizes, tro- phies, and bragging rights! The Soap Box Derby entry fee is $25 per family or business entry, and/or $15 for each individual entry. Soap Box Derby registration from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wolf Mountain, with the derby fun happening from noon to 2:00 p.m. Your derby “contraption” must include: skis, snowboard, and/or ski poles. For more information, call 745-3511 or visit <www.wolfmountaineden.com> Weber State Symphony Orchestra Features Afro-British Composer The Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents the Weber State Symphony Orchestra Sunday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium, Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $4.50 and $3.50. Those with military I.D. will receive tickets at student price. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Dee Events Center ticket office, or by calling 1-800-WSU-TIKS. The concert will begin with “The Consecration of the House Overture” by Beethoven. In honor of Black History month, the orchestra will present “Petite Suite” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912), an Afro-British composer hailed as the “Black Mahler.” The finale will be the Mozart Symphony No. 41, the “Jupiter” Symphony. This was Mozart’s final symphony, a “classic” of the Classical Music Era. The public is cordially invited to the concert. Children ages 8 and over are welcome to attend. This concert is partially funded by student fees. For more information about this concert, contact Dr. Michael Palumbo, 626-6991 or <mpalumbo@weber.edu> Terrace Plaza Playhouse Presents “The Sound of Music” Terrace Plaza Playhouse is pleased to present The Sound of Music February 22 through April 11, 2008 every Friday, Saturday, and Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain’s immediate service in their navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The play is directed by Carolyn J. Stevens, and stars Lindy Page and Annie Ferrin as Maria, Russel Murdock as Captain Von Trapp, and Yvonne Doolhoff-Short and Sylvia Jorgensen as Mother Abbess. Tickets are $11 and $9 for adults, and $8 and $6 for children. Senior and student tickets are discounted $1 off regular ticket price. Season tickets, which includes seven shows in the reserved section, are $63.
