Show wmexry oer TE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 5 January 15, 2007 Joe Draper, Pam Christiansen Simons’ Artwork Now on Display— Highlights scenes from Ogden Valley A representational collection of pieces from Joe Draper and Pam Christiansen Simons of Utah will be on display in the Lorna Wattis Swanson Gallery of the Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville through February 2 Ogden Valley Chamber Orchestra from Brigham Young University in 1990. Since then, she has been teaching art and painting. She is a member of the Utah Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. Recently, she was ers m erica organization. m’s other interests include biking, hiking, and camping. Pam Christiansen Simons Pam Christiansen Simons is primarily a Utah landscape painter working in watercolor and oil. Pam says that she finds her inspiration in the Utah landscape. She is particularly moved by the colors, shapes, and subjects present in the Huntsville area. This is Joseph A. Draper Also on display is a representational collection of pieces from Joseph A. Draper of Huntsville. He says that he has a love and respect for the land on which he lives. Joe has a Masters degree in Forestry from Utah State University. He spent several years working for the U.S. Forest Service. His training created a love for plants, animals, and open country. These themes are present in much of his artwork Working in watercolor and acrylic, Joe paints those areas which he frequently visits on hikes or trips. Joe loves wide open Many of the pieces in this show depict these wide open spaces that are most familiar to him. These paintings usually contain landscape features such as Joseph Draper The winter paintings in this current show on hills or mountains, stands of trees, open skies, or waterways. He works in his studio, but enjoys painting on location Joe and artist, Pam Christiansen Simon, have taken many trips to paint in the Huntsville, Eden, and Liberty locations. They have also gone on painting trips to Zions Canyon, Monte Cristo, and Grand Junction, Colorado. “Pam and I have a lot of fun painting together at these locations,” Joe states Come to the Ogden Valley Branch library on “aon January 20 between 3:00 and 5:45 p.m. to meet the two newest artists to exhibit their art in the Library’s gallery. There will be light snacks as well as the opportunity to see the newest exhibit and meet the artists that created the art- display were done mostly in the North Fork area. The summer, spring, and fall paintings a Pam Simons were completed from a variety of Valley locations. Also included in the show are other “plein-aire” paintings from various Utah locations. Pam was born and raised in Utah. She states, ‘ goal is to keep my work fresh and vibrant. I try not to overwork the brush strokes and prefer to make my work look spontaneous. I also like to keep the paint looking like paint rather than trying to duplicate a photograph.” Pam prefers to paint outdoors on location. www The Ogden Valley Chamber Orchestra will begin rehearsals on Saturday, February 3, 2007 in preparation for their spring concert. Rehearsals will be held each Saturday at the home of Joy and Joe Clem, 8665 E. 300 N. in Huntsville from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Our spring concert is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2007 Some of the selected pieces include Slavonic Dance No. 8 by Davorak, Selections from Harry Potter, Highlights from Phantom of the Opera, and Lord of the Dance.
