A big thank you goes to Valley resident Lori Heckelman for her donated efforts in this creation. We have a new look, but we a not a new organization. Our H Opden Valley Pathways (OVP) was established by local citizens in August, 1999. The organization operated several years as a chapter of Weber Pathways. But because of the Valley’s rapid growth and urgent need to initiate and coordinate pathways development locally, OVP registered as an independent Utah non-profit corporation on January 31, 2006. The Ogden Valley Pathways board has applied for, and received, two National Parks Service grants: one used to develop the Ogden Valley Master Plan and the other for construction of the paved Eden/Parson’s Trail. This 2.4 mile pathway connects North River Drive to the school, continues through Eden’s commercial district to the North Arm Trailhead, and on to the Eden Park. This projfunded by $29,400 i $40,00 in cash and in-kind donations from Ogden Valley residents, and construction discounts of $21,413 courtesy of Staker & Parson’s Company. During the past year, Ogden Valley Pathways volunteers also worked with students and teachers to produce the Wildflowers and Birds Along the Ogden Valley Pathways trail brochure; and worked on an ordinance review, participated in public and private educational efforts, and contributed hundreds of hours working on trail maintenance of U.S. Forest Service and eae County trail networks. e OVP Mis: The mission ofOeden Valley Pathways (OVP) is to seek to provide the public with a network of non-motorized pathways within the Ogden Valley in a manner that preserves the natural environment and enhances quality of life. OVP’s current priority oe : to ee the remaining 5.29 miles of the 7 Eden to Huntsville Trail. The trail, hehe sicily facilities, will be constructed alongeg the northern boundary of Pineview Reservoiron Weber County’s road right-of-way, and on land owned by the USDA Forest Service. Fill Dirt Being Readied Along Highway Have you observed the growing number of iles of dirt along the highway between Eden and Huntsville? Pat Brennan and his company DIG-IT are graciously donating and hauling fill dirt for deposit along the roadside from Huntsville to Spring Creek in preparation for OVP’s next phase of trail paving. If you have good fill dirt that you would be willing to donate to this project, please, please contact Dave Holmstrom at 745-6638. National Trails’ Day Celebration Let’s celebrate OVP’s success and future endeavors in our beautiful Valley! Since 1999 they’ve been adding new trails for North America, and the total now stands at over 35,000 trails!’ Each trail comes with a detailed description of the trip, driving directions, guidebook-quality trail maps, photos, and traiil il rat ingsand reviews. Falcon Publishing, now under the Globe Pequot Press, was founded in Helena, Montana in 1979 with one book—Hiking Montana by company founder Bill Schneider. Today, it claims to have over 1,000 titles. All of this information doesn’t come free. A one-year membership is $49.95. You can sign up for a free 14-day trial to check out their products. GORP.com GORP, or Greater Outdoor Recreation Page, was recently purchased by the Away Network, an online provider of information about active travel. GORP has been around for years, and is a great site for information on trail vacations, outdoor gear, hiking, camping, biking, snow shoeing, and more. GORP has lots of information on National Parks—where to hike or bike, where to camp, when to go, and more. It has a trail finder so that you can locate a specific trail.
