ABirthday Party @ Your Library! at Peery’s Egyptian Theatre A Celtic Celebration, sponsored by Celtic Beat and Friends, will be held at Peery’s Egyptian Theatre on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m Celtic Beat Celtic Beat is an Irish step-dance troupe. Their friends for the celebration will be the Galloway Highlanders and Idlewild. Galloway Highlanders performance includes pipes and drums. Formed in 1994, the Galloway Highlanders includes three generations pipers known throughout the Intermountain West. Idlewild performs mainly Celtic music form Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, and the Isle of Man. Their performance features various cultural pieces mixed into their program. Weber Pathways has invited nature writer and outdoors adventurer Craig Childs to speak at their annual fundraising event on March 3 at the Timbermine restaurant in Ogden Childs has spent entire winters walking the canyons of Utah, and has vanished without a trace into dune seas and appallingly vast North American deserts. Kirkus Reviews calls his writing “superb,” and says that his books merit shelf space alongside the best of Edward Abbey. Childs is the author of The Secret Knowledge of Water and Soul of Nowhere, plus nine other books, all combining science and wilderness travel. He is a columnist for the LA Times as a commentator for National Public Radio’s Morning Edition. His writings have med him the Colorado Book Award as well as the Spirit of the West Literary Achievement Award that is given to a writer whose body of work captures the unique spirit of the American West.
