The two of them spent their off season doing re-vegetation work for a landscape company that evolved into another successful business here in the Valley. Lori, an Alaskan emigrant, met her husband John when they were both instructors at the same resort. The search for a shop location began in the early nineties and the group settled on a vacant lot where the shop stands today (2429 N. Hwy. 158 in Eden). The reason they selected this lot, according to John, “It was cheap!” The first dollar made by Diamond Peak Winter Sports occurred in 1993, and the shop has been going strong ever since. At first, snowsports were the only gig, but what the Valley has to offer recreationally in the winter is matched in the summer with scenic mountain trails and popular road rides for cyclists. Of course, the same cutting edge technology equipment and repair services are offered during this season as well. The addition of cycling gear and accessories keeps the shop busy in the spring, summer, fall, and is more fun than their previous non-winter jobs. Customer satisfaction and attention to detail have always been priority one at Diamond Peak, no matter what season. Now, you could suggest turning around, which may cause your powder-seeking buddies to drop you off at the next intersection, or you could stop by Diamond Peaks Mountain Sports, solve your problem, and pick up your discount passes to Snowbasin or Powder Mountain. Serving the needs of winter sports enthusiasts and cyclists for over ten years, Diamond Peak Winter Sports has all the equipment and accessories you’ll need for an enjoyable mountain outing. Owners John and Lori Mortensen, Kevin Sheridan, and Josh, Jake, and Dan Mortensen have made sure the shop furnishes top of the line gear and the most modern tuning and repair equipment. Unique to this shop will be the emphasis placed on user friendly gear to help beginners progress more quickly. Tunes and repairs will still be done in the Eden shop. “Qualified technicians are hard to find,” John adds. “We’ll see how this year works out and possibly have a tech there in the future.” Don’t be alarmed, the Wolf Mountain staff is of the same caliber and quality as the main shop. There is also a satellite shop located in the Powder Ridge recreation facility, offering sport, and performance packages to Powder Ridge patrons and guests. Do your boots kill your feet? Get a custom fit from a certified pedorthist. Yeah, I said pedorthist, a person trained in the assessment, design, manufacture, fit, and modification of foot appliances and footwear for the purpose of alleviating painful or debilitating conditions, and providing assistance for abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limb. There are less than ten of them in the state, and Josh is one of them. Long story short—he can make your boots perform and feel good, and he’s in the shop full time. If you’re looking for a tune or repairs, Diamond Peak is set up for the weekend warrior, back country equipment abuser, or full on racer. Diamond Peak is one of the first shops in Utah with a Wintersteiger stone grinder and techs who know how to use it, next is dise finishing, and, finally, hand filing for that personal touch. Craftsmanship still means something here when it comes to tuning. If you’re looking for new equipment, Diamond Peak offers a wide variety of the hottest gear available, and you can demo a lot of it before making the commitment to buy. The staff has been trained in stance analysis and boot shimming, and asks all the right questions to provide optimum performance. They also have one of the largest selections of ski boots in the state. In the retail sales department, you'll find affordable and name brand coats, pants, gloves, goggles, and accessories for boarders and skiers. Rental gear available includes sport to high performance skis, snowboards, boots, cross-country skis and boots, snowshoes, and some clothing items for the forgetful traveler. Of course, there are bikes, gear, and accessories in the warmer season too. > By Keith Moore F I with coupon Presented UNION ete ION the USO .% aM FOUNDATION Saturday, December 31st Catered by UNION GRILL OFF Expires 12/31/05 arty Tray T from the De $1. 00 <= X Great music for listening and * dancing Weber State University’s" BIG BAND with coupon —_ 50¢ x.
