Rich Brewer Edward Rich Brewer, always known by his mother’s maiden name of Rich, has been a major presence in the Ogden community since he started winning a lot of ski races as ajunior. That presence has grown exponentially over the years. Rich Brewer is number twelve. ~ Rich won the Snow Basin Ski Club Championship 1949. ~~ In 1950 he placed 16" in the combined at the U.S. Jr. Nationals at Stowe, ‘Vermont; and won the Intermountain Jr. Ski finishing 24 in the Downhill and 3 in the Slalom. 1951 saw Rich finish 8!" in the ae championship at the U.S. Jr. Nati member of the American Legion team that coompeta for Utah in Sun wiley and finished 4" out of 12 eams from the west .S. ~ i 1952, 1953, and 1954, Rich skied for the University of Utah ski team that finished in the top five in the WCAA finals in each of those years. After his Marine Corps service, Rich returned to Ogden and joined his father and brothers in the family owned business—J.W. Brewer Tire Company. Rich served as vice president, secretary, and treasurer of the company. He retired after 30 years and formed E. Rich Brewer, Inc., an investment company. Over the years, Rich has atireless force in the Ogden community, donating his time to many causes and endeavors. He is currently the chairman of the McKay Dee Hospital Board of Trustees and paign chairman of the fund drive to build the new hospital. He is a member of the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce Board and received the Chamber’s highest honor, “The Wall of Fame” Award in 1996. He has served two terms as Chairman of the Weber Economic Development Corporation, served on the boards and advisory boards of numerous corporations and organiza_ and has been active with the Boy Scouts for ~ of his life was spending time during the Olympics with all the “Ogden Boys,” many of whom are mentioned below, “working together at a magnificent Olympic venue on the same hill they spent so many days skiing and racing so many years before. Bob Chambers Bob first skied Snow Basin in 1941, and soon made a name for himself as an extraordinary competitor. Sixty plus years later in a recent conversation he offered some words of wisdom he still lives by, “Good living and strong coffee get me to the first gondola.” ~ i193 Str Plac Barr Chern ~ In 1951/52, 5 Bob » During a three year commitment to the Olympics that involvedmany duties and responsibilities, he served as Venue Chairperson for the Snowbasin venue, and he and his wife Jane were the head hosts for the Olympic Family. In 1996, he placed 15* in all three events at the Western Region Championship. ~ in 1955, Bob founded Alpine Sports. $ In November, served in the U.S. Army with the Mountain Training Command at Camp Hale, Colorado, and was later deployed to Korea. During his tour in the Korean Conflict, he was awarded the Bronze star for Valor in combat with the enemy, and was credited with saving the lives of fellow soldiers. ~ In 1953, Bob was awarded a full ski scholarship at the Conve!of Wyoming. The four ae in+ those ys were jumping, cross country, slalom, and downhill, which required outstanding skills in very diverse disciplines. In 1964 he took 2 Place in the National Veteran’s Championship in Squaw Valley, California. ~ In 1965 Bob placed 15* in the National Veterans’ = ~ icon in the ski business in the Oxden community. Bob is still skiing hard and most recently competed at Snowbasin on the 4" of July Race! If you don’t blink, you can catch him most days making his customary two to three turns during a breakneck descent from the summit to the base at Snowbasin.
