My wife and I are doing historical research on the Death Valley 49ers. Jefferson Hunt—the founder of Huntsville—was the guide who led a wagon train to California in 1849. Th party we are studying defected from his wagon train and eventually ended up in Death Valley, California. e are interested in obtaining more background on Captain Jefferson Hunt. For example, a book recently off the press gives his name as “Charles Jefferson Hunt.” Is this his correct first name? We find no corroborating evidence supporting the authors’ contention. And they give his date of death 11, 1879. Is this correct? u have any information, please email us at ljohnson@qnet.com oO Jeannie Wendell Tel: 745-2879 Fax: 745-2879 E-Mail: crwendell@att.net erwendell@msn.com Candidate Seats Open for Huntsville Town and North Ogden City Opinions expressed by advertisers, columnists or letters to the editor are not necessarily the opinions of the owners and staff of The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS. Huntsville Town is only one ofa handful of communities that does not participate in the traditional filing and election process to select community leaders. Instead, they participate in a nomination convention form of government. Sometime in August or September, two different conventions will be held representing two non-partisan groups—Our Party and Party Number One. At these respective conventions, each group nominates and, if necessary, votes on a candidate that is then placed on the ballot for the November election. Candidates do not file beforehand, but may make their interests for seeking office known at either of the conventions.
