Show THE Page 4 OGDEN VALLEY NEWS February Nordic Valley Family Ski Area Announces Wednesday Night “Beat The Clock” Races Jeff Summers of Nordic Valley Family Ski Area has announced a fun new racing program on Wednesday nights through the balance of ski season, beginning February 16. Racers wanting to run gates to practice their “Bode-licious” racing technique can come up any Wednesday night. The course will be set on the Valhalla trail, where start to finish timing will be conducted. The staff of Nordic Valley can even set up a grudge match if desired. Most collisions on Utah roadways occur during peak rush hours. Driving under the influence and speeding were the top two most common contributors to fatal crashes. While out of state drivers only accounted for about 9.1% NGM 0 Wednesday nights is the Master’s Ski Racing program, organized by locals Keith Rounkles and Kirk Langford. I would say speeding is definitely the most common factor of collisions in the canyon. Compiled by Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Valley Elementary’s sixth grade is hosting a Serve to Save dinner on February 23 from 5:00 sharp to 6:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. The purpose of the dinner is to raise money for the American Red Cross while also providing students with an opportunity to learn leadership and organizational skills—how to greet dignitaries; how to lead an audience in the Pledge of Allegiance; decorating and preparing for an organized function; how to be part of a community of caring; and, most importantly, learning that no matter how old you are, you can make a difference! Sixth graders will be able to shake hands and meet special guest Utah Lt. Governor Gary Herbert, who will read to the audience “Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed” by Carol Pearson. The sixth graders will perm a musical number, and the class mayors will formally introduce the Lt. Governor and present revenue generated from the event to a Red Cross representative. For more information, call Valley Elementary at 452-4180. Nordic Valley Family Ski Area Offers Mid-week Special Jeff Summers of Nordic Valley Family Ski Area has announced a mid-week pricing special. Effective February 8 through the end of the ski season, adult skiers and snow- boarders can ski all day and all night Tuesday through Thursday for just $15. Lifts open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m.; that’s only $1.20 per hour for those wanting to ski or ride from morning to night! Nordic Valley Ski Resort is located at 3567 Nordic Valley Way in Eden on the west side of the Ogden Valley. With just over 960 ft of vertical, the resort features a beginner chair servicing what many consider to be the best beginner hill in the state, and the Viking double chair, which serves 1000 skiers per hour on mile long lit runs for intermediate and advanced skiers. The ski resort also features a small terrain park and jump, ideal for those practicing for the big hills.
