When was the last time you felt goose bumps rising on the back of your neck or you broke out in a cold sweat? For some of you older, middle aged types, it has probably been awhile. But something scary is coming to Ogden Valley this Halloween. I’m not talking about one of those silly spook Snowdance Dinner and Auction Slated— Event to Benefit Snowbasin Powder Mountain Ski Education Ski Team, Mark your calendar for the Third Annual Snowdance and auction that will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Snowbasin Ski Resort. I’m talking about something disturbing, something you won’t soon forget; I’m talking about the Hearthside’s Darkside. For years the Martin family of the Hearthside in Eden has been hosting Halloween parties far from ordinary. Few, who have ever attended, go away the same. But every October they return again, like zombies, drawn by some unnatural attraction. “T heard voices in my head for weeks,” is a typical reaction to a Hearthside haunting. This year the Martin’s have decided to share the scare with any who dare. Why? Giving yourself a good scare is great therapy. It’s empowering to occasionally confront and poke some fun at the things that worry you, the things that really gnaw at you. You know .. . all those things you have absolutely no control over that can really mess up your life, like getting hit by a bus, or being buried in an avalanche. There’s a lot of scary stuff out there and something’s coming for you. You can sense it, lurking in the shadows, just up ahead. It’s time to shake a finger at your fears and yell, “Catch me if you can!” It’s time to laugh at all those things that spook you. It’s time to look in those shadows and pretend you’ re not really all that scared. On the nights of Thursday, October 28 and Friday, October 29, at exactly 7 bells, Eden’s premier haunt will open its 100 year old doors to all for an evening of grub, grog, and ghosts! A delicious five-corpse dinner will be generously served to all. The evening will be laced with spellbinding music, dance, and how dos in voodoo, spells and potions! Ghosts and their stories will reverberate throughout the halls. The cost is $20.00 per soul. Proceeds will benefit the Hearthside’s on going preservation and restoration effort. Consider yourself invited . or rather . . . summoned. For those newcomers to the Valley, the historic Hearthside, and the adjoining Valley Chapel, are located one block east of the old Eden General Store.
