Show February 9, 2001 Page A3 Sheriffs Blotter Accident At Echo Junction Claims Life BY PAMELA ROBBINS lire Etliiiir According to a UUP report, Filadelfo Lopez Sorroza, in his thirties, lost his life in a one car accident at Echo Junction on Saturday, Feb. 3, at approximately 9 p.m. While traveling westbound on near the overpass for east bound traffic, the driver, Martin Peralta Morgan of Murray lost control and struck a pillar crushing the passenger side of the Honda four door vehicle. The report listed alcohol as a probable cause of the accident The driver was slightly injured. Investigating officer was Trooper Brian Davis. The case has been turned over to the Summit County Attorney's Office for review. Charges pending results of the investigation. Team Up For College Rodeo Days SLCC, UVSC Salt Lake Community College and Utah Valley State College will be sponsoring College Rodeo Days. Members of rodeo teams from Utah. Idaho and Nevada w ill rodeo. compete in the two-da- y The rodeo will be held at 7 p.m., Feb. 16 and at 2 p.m.. Feb. 17. The top 10 will compete for top honors at 7 p.m., Feb. 17. Both days events will be held in the new indoor heated South Jordan Equestrian Center, 1 1400 South 2200 West in South Jordan. Utah will be represented by most of the state's higher education institutions including Brigham Young University. College of Eastern Utah. Dixie State College. SLCC, Snow College. Southern Utah University. UVSC and Weber State University. Other two- - and four-yecolleges and universities will compete from Idaho as well as- - one from Elko, Ncv. Students in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association compete for individual points and for team event competitive points. At the end of the season, the top two mens and women's teams as well ar 1 as the top two individuals in each event from each region will compete in the national championships in June in Wyoming. The stock for this rodeo will he provided by professional rodeo producer. Powder River Rodeo Company, from Wyoming. Troy Lerwill known as Wild Child in rodeo circles will be on hand with his motorcycle clown act and entertain the audience as the clown in the rodeo. Professional rodeo announcer Don Jesser will announce the rodeo. Following the rodeo on Feb. 16. there we will be hosting a Dirt Dance. The dance is free to anyone w ith a rodeo ticket stub. Tickets are $4 for SLCCUVSC students with ID: S6 for adults: and $4 for children under 12 and are on sale at all SmithTix locations. Officers responded to an apt. to do a welfare check after receiving two calls from the same address. What they found was a resident telling them he was confused to find two calls from dispatch on his answering machine when he had not contacted them. The officer explained that is the procedure used when a up call is received. He told officers he was going to call the phone company to try to dbttfrmine w hat the problem might be. A complainant called dispatch to report she and her mother had been away from their home for a week and returned to find a window had been broken then taped. They were afraid that the father, who had a protective order against him had been to the home. While the officers were present, a brother returned to the home and said he hiad broken the window accidentally. Case was cleared. A young driver backed into a vehicle parked near his. He and his friends got out and looked for damage before getting back into the car and leaving the scene. A witness told the owner and an officer what she had seen. The youth returned about 30 minutes later to apologize and the officer told him that in the case of an accident, information needs to be exchanged between the two panies and that leaving the scene could result in enlarges. An officer responded to the scene of "your cows are in my field type of situation. The cows owners said he had been feeding the animals both morning and night but that they still sometimes wandered. The clerk and his manager went through the till and could not locate any extra money. Contact with the man by a phone number he had given could not be nude. A complainant called to report a problem wuh a high snow hank at an intersection that was a haaid due to not being able to see oncoming traffic. A driver stopped for having a light out on his vehicle ended up in jail when a warrants search showed one for his arrest from Park City. The male was arrested and transported to jail for driving on a suspended license and the warrant charge.
