Ills ahilily to engender sympathy, foigiveness and even total cxcusahilily for some of his incredibly unacceptable behavior while acting in his official role as our nation's leader features his ability to completely master the art of manipulation. The unmatch-abl- e charisma he displays while addicssing a crowd is nothing short of hypnotic - probably due to his unparalleled skill in his parsing of the language, wherein he changes common meanings of words to their exact opposites. Not only that, hut he has total worshipcc attention for even his sly "off the cull remaiks. These supposedly impromptu statements, bear evidence of well thought-ou- t and well rehearsed g missiles of potential significance. I'm thinking about his last, casual. misinformation procclilc. when he expressed the opinion that . . . laws prohibit a hrain-washin- Presidential third term, hul I?) there is nothing recorded that states t for a a President can't term or so and then . . . jar lay-ou- re-ru- n i i v again. And. the really frightening thing about this is the public would probably elect him again - given his successful tenure in lowering this nation's behavior pattern way below the water-linof debauchery. There is probably no advantage to itemizing all the land mark shah-bineterm of his sorry eight-yea- r because it has become too wearytor so many folks. ing - too Anyway, those people who love to author hooks about things like this will have volumes to write on his never-endin- g supply of jusl how our young Americans should start behaving if they want to grow up to be President someday. There is a gremlin in Willy's future, however, and knowing how extremely perceptive he is. I'm sure he has already caught that vibe. It's Hillary. Yep. she didn't leech on to her Senator title just for the exercise. No. I might be wrong, but I think her creative scheduling requires being a Senator as a necessary prerequisite to her becoming this nation's first woman President e ss ho-hu- (and Bill would become first Husband"). If anything, she's smarter at manipulation than he is. much smarter. Providing, of g course, that the i. . . vast foil doesn't conspiracy gnnip right-win- her plans. they suddenly become too disgusting even for each other. Some readers may think I'm too harsh in my opinion of their faulted leadership qualities, hut there have been too many recorded instances of total disrespect - for the Office of President, by the Clintons - to set aside. Their final act of contempt was their solicited acceptance of the hundreds of thousands of dollars of gifts (mostly from recipients of Presidential favors granted through the powers of his office) - clearly created by requests from one of the President's Democratic Committee Campaign officials. Veiled in the g tradition of to an outgoing President, it performed the dual purpose of having to legally precede the swearing-i- n ceremony of Senator Hillary in order to not for only serve ' as a pay-of- f Presidential services rendered, but also to fire a shot across the bow that this new, female Senator (not just an ordinary senator) should, in fact, become the first female President. The message seemed to be, Get your bowing and scrapOh ing in early - avoid the rush. yes. and there was also a $3,000 gift-givin- minimum donation asked for in each letter. urn in four Let's see now elected President, years Hillary gets stays in eight years, then Bill goes back for eight. The Millennium celebration last year caused a big ruckus as home owners visited supermarkets, recreational businesses and began making lists and checking ihciu twice. The year passed wiiIhkiI ceremony and people became lax once again. I am not predicting any doom and gloom on the scene, hut I can't help hut wonder if the present utility crisis in not one of the criteria we have been warned about. Gasps and sighs of disbelief could he heard as resiilcnts opened their last utility bills and found significant rale hikes in them. I know I personally did a double take. So. at our house, the lights arc being shut oil a lot more, the heat is cut down and warm blankets are being used and an effort is being taken to notice ways we cun save on our utility bills. What concerns me more than my own hills, are those facing the elderly, those on fixed incomes and single parent households. When it comes to making choices, it would be extremely difficult to face w hethcr to feed your family or pay the bills. I mean, a roof over oik's head is a great thing, hut family needs arc also important. I wonder il now is the time for greater effort to be given to watching over friends and neighbors to make sure they are ok. And. to share the things we have with others. Well, guess I've been on the soap box long enough. Do you realize that Valentines Day is just'around the corner? Valentine is described as a noun-- a sentimental nr humorous greeting card to a sweetheart, friend, or family member on Saint Valentines Day. A gift sent as a token of love to ones sweetheart-o- r noticing a person singled out especially as one's sweetheart on that special day of the year. Verses and Valentine greetings were popular as far back as the Middle Ages, when lovers said or sang their valentines. W'ritten Valentines began to appear after 1400. The oldest Valentine in existence was made in the 1400s and is in the British Museum. Paper valentines were exchanged in Europe where they were given in place of valentine gifts, and were made popular in England. Early valentines were made by hand and were made with colored paper, watcrcolors and colored inks. In the early IKOO's. valentines began to be assembled in factories. Early manufactured valentines were black and white pictures that were painted by workers in a factory. Fancy valentines were made with real lace and ribbons, with paper lace introduced in the mid IKOO's. By the end of the IKOOs valentines were being made entirely by machine. In the early 1900's, a card company named Morcross began to manufacture valentines. liach year. Hallmark displays its collection of rare and antique valentines at card ships around the country. Museum and Libraries also offer antique valentine exhibitions around St. Valentine's Day. One thing I have learned about sharing Valentine's Day together with that special someone is that it isn't the expensive things that get your attention, its the little ones. To my special Valentine-- I would like to say, thanks for doing the laun- dry, thanks for making supper when I am swamped with the paper, thanks for vacuuming, thanks for shopping, thanks for attending meetings with me, thanks for treating me with kindness when I don't feel well. 1 just want you to know I LOVE you very much and wish you a special day. Happy Birthday greetings to my sister, DiAnn. even if it is after the fact. Nonetheless, she needs to know how special I think she is and what a great addition to our family. She is a perfect example of reaching out and touching someone. for 1 have heard many people say how much they appreciate the thoughts and stories she passes along to them. She takes people for rides that normally might not get the opportunity to do so. She takes flowers and balloons to people suffering from illness, welcoming a new baby into the home, or just to brighten up someone's day. In other words, she tries to create rainbows in the lives of others. LOVE YA....
