Look us up on the fntemet fur winter fishing information. Striped bass are feeding on shad in deep water. Most shad are seen on the graph at depths greater than 60 feet. There is not an overabundance of shad remaining so every fish concentration seen on the graph is a potential striped bass spot. Normally the spot to start looking is midway hack in a short canyon anJ 23 hack in a long canyon. Start searching at 80 feet keeping in mind that stripers above 60 feet are'the easiest to catch. Look fur humps, ndges. drop offs, and shelves. If fish traces are not found try dropping spoons or hail along the edges of prominent underwater structure. Sometimes stripers are in close proximity to the bottom and not distinguishable on the graph. Spend only a few minutes fishing where no fish traces are seen. It is much better to find traces and fish at the depth wliere fish are seen. Use a floating marker to mark a school's location. Return to the marker to start a new drift when the breeze moves the boat away from the school. Giumming is now advisable if fishing haiL Use an anchor to stay near fish and in the area that was chummed. Stripers are found on winter feeding grounds in main Warm Geek. Last Chance, and between Good Hope Bay and Hite. There are not many stripers at the Rincon and other midlake locations. Smallmouth bass are still cashable. This pattern Afternoons are productive but anytime during the day is good. As temperature continues to drop it will be necessary to use a slow bottom Jhumping. swimming retrieve instead of a normal hopping retrieve to get good results. Depth varies from right on shore to 40 feet If nothing happens shallow tum around and try dropping the grub in deep water. Catfish are cashable at night and stripers can be attracted to artificial light and caught with bait in a boat anchored in 30 feet of water near shad traces. -- Clarification About 2001 Big Game Hunting Rules ,fW jL .. jj Mi Handmade garland & Wreaths An Ijjl-- sizes and types of Christmas trees Carefully selected ornaments & decorations I Delicate Baskets & Centerpieces. That's a fantastic success rate and we're really excited about it. said Dean Mitchell, upland game coordinator for the Divisioi of Wildlife Resources. Merriam's turkey hunters weren't far behind, uking a total of 211 Mariam's turkeys for a harvest success rate of 53 percent. Mitchell believes the lower Memair's turkey success rate is due mostly to the vast, expansive, mountainous ten-aithe birds live in and the extra time hunters must take to scout the birds, lo find success. Thanks to an aggressive effort by the Division of Wildlife Resources to bring iurkeys to Utah from to trap and transplant turkeys within tie sure, and to improve turkey habitat, most of Utah's wiki turkey populations are flourishing. e, w .. iL T b, Youths who ohtain a general muzzleloader or rifle permit will be allowed to hunt all Division regions during the general archery season, but may only hunt the region they have a permit for during the muzzle-loadand rifle seasons. Conservation groups, such as the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Utah based Sportsmen fur Fish and Wildlife, have provided much of the funding for the Divisions wild turkey efforts. I'm proud to say Utah has set the one year, combined record for the most wild turkeys ever moved within a state, and brought in from outside a state." Mitchell said. Wild turkey plans for the next 12 months include the continued trapping and transplanting of birds within Utah and bringing in as many wild turkeys as possible mostly from Rio Grande Mitchell said Utahns shouldn't expect to see the state's Meniam's turkey population grow much more. Most of the suitable ponderota pine, mixed with aspen and oak habitat that the birds prefer in Utah, already has Merriam's turkeys. The sky's the limit, though, when it comes to the number of Rio Grande turkeys Utah can support Rio Grandes prefer riparian habitats consisting of cottonwood river bottoms that are usually adjacent to agricultural areas, and Utah has plenty of these. Mitchell said the state's combined Rio Grande and Meniam's turkey population is about 6,000 to 8,000 birds. Based on the type of habitat found in Utah, the Division believes the state could support as many as 200,000 birds.
