That is, if the Republican spon-sore- d Inheritance Tax Bill is not vetoed by the Prcz, Bill Clinton. Chances of this happening seem n to fall into the categoHow will slim none." to ry of this enable the fat cals to get fatter? Well, the bill is intended to eliminate inheritance taxes on large, wealthy estates, of which there are at least approximately 3.(J0() huge ones. Look at it this way. In the first place, the House leaders, who I think most agree, are the ones who are responsible for getting the bill through the house and ready fur the President's signature. They are also the ones well versed in knowing how to procure the big each term. bucks necessary in order .to win Simple how it works. This gif) (gratuitously granted in the I. T. Bill) would eliminate any inheritance taxes on the value of any estate exceeding $675,(XX). Sounds fair enough, but in our current age of multitudinous millionaires, it would eventually result in only about I out of every l(X) estates being taxed at all, thereby decreasing the current source of tax money from the fat cats by about fifty per cent. Translated into common political talk it means a bigger share would be made available (and certainly from the fat cat interpreted to mean campaign contributors to the bloated bureaucrats -whom have titles like Senator and Congressman, and for their yes President and campaigns. Or am I being too biased in so assuming? Perhaps. However, the thought is justified, considering how much time and effort the majority of our elected officials spend (drawing full salaries all the while) on their campaign stumps. And we all agree it's the money that gets them elected. It makes sense to me that one gixid turn deserves another, and if these courageous representatives of ours are brave enough to legalize millions of $$ in lax relief for these incomparably wealthy then certainly the tycoons ought to recipro-wit- h donaenough heavy money in campaign-fundin- g tions to at least ensure that their current status quo will Continued from page A I remain quite status and quite quo .... preferably forever. Columnist. David Broder. who, in my opinion, is a very observant, articulate writer, has exposed some very glaring glitches in the process of eliminating the inheritance tax. He has opened up (among other equally negative possibilities) an exposure of the fact that the major portion of donations to various foundations and charities comes from "people eager to reduce the size of their estates before inheritance Wes are levied." And has postulated that the reasoning of this trend to "give it to charity instead of government, because of the observed waste of taxpayers money by government" as being the perceived basis of these major donation decisions. From personal observation and realizing most citizens express this sentiment in ordinary, everyday conversations, I would have to agree with this philosophy. One other portion of this sad tale is, I believe fairly well-know- predictable. I would doubt, very strongly, that Hizzoner, the President, would bite the hand that feeds him, or 1 should say will continue to feed his A1 B whoops 1 keep trying to spell his name with a B Al Core, and would, therefore, assume Mr. Clinton will not veto the I. T. Bill. I'm sure he thinks what has worked so well heretofore, should continue to work just as well from here on out. It would be highly unfortunate for those of his ilk, however, and probably not in the realm of real possibility, if the remnants of die Clinton Era were to stumble due to their overindulgent nastiness and fall into obscurity. A condition which could possibly consummate in allowing this nation to regain our past pinnacle of morality, respectable stability, and former worldwide prominence as leaden of this world. It seems to me that as long as our current money fied system of electing our governing officials remains unregulated, as it is, we will not be able to morally justify most of the political decisions made by these holders of public office. ), Vice-Preside- nt bought-and-paid-f- or Thought for the day: "It is a trick among the dishonest to offer sacrifices that are not needed, or not possible, to avoid making those that are required. Nancy Kirkham, Blazzard Lumber, Arch Arnold, and Mark Monson ail filed valid letters in protest of the petition. The protestors have several con- cerns regarding the annexation, concerns over increased noise arid traffic in that area. The Black family fears their private toad will taken to be used as access to the industrial zone. "We don't want an industrial park next to where we live. We have children playing all the time in that area, said Nancy Kirkham. There is also some fanning done next to the area and citizens have a concern for the animals and the farmers. "That doesn't mix well." arid Kirkham. Unfortunately, the citizens' protest may be invalid. State statute says certain technical crite Sprigg, Chairman 1. of the newly formed Boundary Commission calculated that there were 302 acres within a mile radius in the unincorporated area. A successful protest would require protest from owners of 73 acres to make up the required 25. . However, one landowner, Robert Hoyt says the County Attorney, Robert Adkins, told him that he did not have to make a protest, but could join those already protesting. A frustrated Hoyt said, based on the information he was allegedly given from Adkins, he told other landowners. If Hoyt's story is proven true, and he is allowed to join the protest, the 25 requirement would be met and there would be Commissioner Pat Cone reminded those present that previously the County helped to subsidize the cost of trash pick up but when it came time to write up the RFFs for the new trash contract, the board voted against doing so.
