However, when the Democratic Party held their convention, two candidates remained, Shauna Kerr of Park City and Michael Marty of Woodland, constituting the need for a Primary election. According to County Clerk. Kent Jones, A voter will have to declare themselves cither a democrat or a republican at the top of the ballot and stick with their decision the entire ballot." Or. to simplify the voting arrangement, a person entering the voting booth would make a choice to punch "Republican" and choose between Governor Leavitt Olene Walker as Lieutenant zGov. and Glen P. DavisHawkins for Lieutenant Governor in the Governor's Primary election or choose Democrat and vote between Kerr and Marty for the a County Commission seat, which will determine the candidate who will be on the November Ballot. Voters need to remember they can only vote, one way or the ballot will be dropped. This process is nothing new said Jones. "A primary election is really an extension of the convention because it is a matter of determining which party member will be on the November Balkx." With June's Primary election a voter can have a choice of "Choosing a Candidate" while November will be a " Vote for the Person" to hold the position.
