If you can help them, please contact JoAnn Morris. The American Legion Auxiliary has selected three junior girls to attend Girls State this year. More on Jerry Sandstrom It was brought to our attention, that last weeks article on Jerry Sandstrom did not do him justice. Jerry, son of Alonzo (Lon) and VaRuc Sandstrom, grew up in Eureka and has been an avid fan ever since. His father was principal of the high school along with being the history and shop teacher. Jerry and his family lived on Lcadvillc next to Martin and Margaret Fennel for several years. Although they moved after Alonzos death. Eureka has always held a special place in their hearts. Jerry attended school in Eureka for several years; however, it was unclear if he graduated here or moved just prior to graduation. Jerry went on to graduate from BYU in 1973 with a in bachelors He later businessaccounting. moved to Las Vegas in 1973. He began his career in accounting and then began working as a research account for Nevada Commission on in Economic Development 1978. He held that position until 2001 when he began working for Mirant Energy in Reunion Texas Mission President 0, Howe, April 4, E. During his career, Jerry helped bring companies like Ocean Spray and Levi Strauss to Henderson, NV; Potlatch Paper to North Las Vegas; Citibank to The Lakes, and the Mirant Energy plant to Apex. By helping bring these companies to Southern Nevada, he in turn helped create many jobs. Sandstrom was bom in Eureka 59 years ago and THS news by Shanna Schow and Shala Davis Track will begin next month with the first meet being on Saturday, April 5. He said that he remembers how bad it felt when, business started dying out here and how although he couldn't understand it. Now he uses that knowledge to bring business to similar rural communities in Nevada. In his position now, Jerry Sandstrom, helps make it easier for companies to come to rural southern Nevada which in turn helps create jobs so that people who want to stay there can. During his career, Jerry Sandstrom has received several awards and belonged to several organizations. He is credit to our community. He is just one example of how people from our small community can make a big impact. BYU summer Registration is now underway for all summer sports and dance camps at Brigham Young University. Blood drive The girls had to interview in order to be considered for the position. Congratulations ladies! American Legion is Auxiliary still trying to raise the money required to send these girls to the week long camp. During the camp, the girls will be able to participate in a mock state government and run for office.
