Volume Ninety-Eig- EUREKA, UTAH - March 14, 2003 ht Grade School Home ec class makes humanitarian dresses The THS ninth grade clothing class has been busy passing competencies required for the state core. In an effort to do this, the students had a choice of making a fleece jacket or a dress for the humanitarian effort. Fabric and trim donated to the school was used for the dresses. Shanna Schow, Candice notes The Board Utah Education of presented certificates to eight students at the elementary school for academic outstanding performance on the SAT tests. 3ri grade the From following students received awards: Trenton Bcvard in the Grimstcad, Jennie Bcckstrom, Danielle Bocscnberg, Sarah Christensen, Jacob Horlachcr, area of environment; Kaylcc Cunningham in the areas of environment, mathematics, reading, and complete battery'; Collin Fitzgerald in the areas of environment and listening; James L. Roper in the areas of environment, mathematics, reading, and complete battery; and McKayla Wahlbcrg in the areas of language. From the 5th grade the following students Kristin language, mathematics, D. Cunningham in the areas of reading, science, and complete battery; Landon Fitzgerald in the area of reading; and Russell Morrison in the area of language. Fire meeting cancelled fire prevention meeting scheduled for March 18th, 2003 has been canceled and is rescheduled for April 17, 2003 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Building. It is taking Fcrral Thomas longer to put together the Fire Prevention Plan and forms for record keeping than planned. However, we have a very good response from property owners giving their permission for the fire break to be constructed on their property and we want to thank them for making the fire break possible. Badlands are regions that have been worn into steep hills and deep gullies by the action of wind, rain and floods. Badlands are common in semidesert regions in the western U.S. Saliva Wright, Amanda Houston, and Mrs. Haynes made the dresses. The students selected their fabrics and trims from the material available. Points were given for each competency the students completed, although, the points were not the reward. The pride each student received outweighed any grade could receive. Sonja Laird they added excitement to the activity when she brought her daughter, Talcigh, to model each dress and have pictures taken with the students. Jerry Sandstrom grew up in Eureka and graduated from He said BYU in 1973. growing up in a small community lead him to his career choice.
