THS students get civics lesson by Gordon Grimstead ' of the voters to decide if war In the continuing observance of the remembering' theme of 11th, Tintic High September School was pleased to host an assembly sponsored by the Utah Bar Association. Representing the Bar were Jose Silver, a criminal lawyer and Tim Taylor, a prosecutor. They spoke about and discussed the freedoms we enjoy here in America. 'This dialog on Freedom focused on some specific knowledge and understanding that it is important for our students to receive. The points made were not hierarchal in order because this assembly was held as a discussion. The following are listed by number only because that is the order they came up in the discussion: In American the same rules apply to everyone. People must learn about our 1. 2. freedoms , fully and understand the responsibilities associated 3. to with those freedoms. In America, at this time in 4. At the regular meeting of the city council on Monday night, Kyle Bigler was in attendance for Fire Chief, Fred Garbett. He explained that he and Fred traveled to Appleton, Wisconsin lat week to pick up the new fire truck. He said that he was very impressed. He explained that the truck is currently in Salt Lake getting all of the equipment on it. It should be here by Friday' and will be down town next week so that people can go and look at it. He explained that it is four wheel drive and has spot lights along is appropriate. Supporting the Rule of Law is on believing in principles of freedom as they relate to everybody and that based having those freedoms mandates that we have an associated responsibility. 3. We have a responsibility to vote. We have a responsibility to serve on juries. 7. We have the responsibility to uphold the law. 8. We have the responsibility to share our opinion with those we elect or accept the final decision even if we dont 6. agree. Freedom exists because we earn it. 10. Individual rights must balance with community rights. 9. This assembly was excellent! PTO event successful The Eureka PTO and Juab County Sheriffs Office held a safety night for the residents of Eureka on Wednesday, October 9 at the elementary school. SheriffDave Carter welcomed everyone out and thanked them for coming. He showed a video to the children explaining to them about stranger danger and what to do if an adult abuses them in any way. After the video, there were several sheriff deputies on hand to take the children's fingerprints. The sheriffs office provided a DNA kit and finger print packet that had a place fix all important information including photos and places to put identifiable marks. The sheriff s office also provided punch and cookies for Number 42 Price $.40 rnnsk with 1 0 outlets that could run all at once if there was enough water. He explained that it is fully equipped. Fred Garbett explained that as far as he understands, this is the first new fire truck that Eureka has ever received. He also said that the last pumper they' received was around 1912. He explained that it is a beautiful truck that will assist the fire department in wild land fires and improving response time along with several other things. He explained that the truck is too big to fit in the current fire shed but that the fire district is trying to purchase property to build a bigger shed. Fred Garbett recommended that the city let them park it in the centennial building and charge the fire district rent until something else becomes available. The planning commission presented three business licenses for approval by the city council. One was for Joyce Wright for Healthy Touch Therapeutic Massage on Main Street. One was for Annies Arcade and the other was for Brittanys Boutique. After some discussion, all three business licenses were approved. reminded The council everyone to come to the meeting on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7 p.m. regarding the fire break. Town talk LARRY and FRAN HEON from Marin County, California, were recent house guests of EDIE and STEVE PASCUAL. Larry John Pascual and were close friends from their high school days at McClatchy High School in Sacramento, California. While they' were here, they visited the Homestead at Midway, Utah and had lunch at the Brazilian Grill in Provo and also enjoyed reminiscing about the many good times shared by the Hcons and Pascuals over the years. From Eureka, the Hcons drove to the Grand Tctons and Yellowstone National Park. They plan to return home to California by' way of Coquille and Bandon. Oregon, on the Pacific Coast w here they will visit Fred Pascual and Jimmy Hcon. everyone.
