Oliver Wendell Holmes Brooklyn Bell from Kindergarten was given the Principal's Award this week for excellence in reading. When she first started Kindergarten, she had a shard time and didn't know hardly any sounds or letters. Her last tested showed that she now knows her letters, sounds, and numbers. Brooklyn has worked very hard this year and is doing great! Brooklyn is the daughter of Chris Bell and Vickie Bell. I want to thank Brooklyn for her dedication to education. Lots of children came and no one went home empty handed! There were around 1 500 eggs, several toys and stuff animals, pop, candy, and lots of pinwhecls for the children to find. The PTO had a lot of support make this possible and would to like to thank all those who donated. They are: Gordon Grimstead, Edie Pascual, Virginia Badertscher, Diane Elliott, Iris Swenson, Rachel Carlson, Anita Booth, Helen Wall, Eileen Schow, Ward; Alder and Jarcn Wadsworth. The Superintendent reported that Colleen Wilson and Ryan Harris have indicated that they will not return as teachers next year. The Superintendent reported that these two positions have been posted on the Utah School Boards Internet page. She reported that six applications have been submitted to the district. Mary Lou gave Board Members copies of a letter from Winston Glcavc of the Utah School Board Association. The letter was an update to the Board regarding applications received for the superintendent position. Mr. Glcavc said he would continue to update the Board weekly, to inform them of the names and number of applicants who have submitted applications for this position with the Tintic School District. Paula Evans, teacher at Tintic High School, reported she was present to serve as a representative of the Teachers Education Association. Mrs. Evans gave the Board a list of names the association recommended to serve on the interview committee during the selection process for a new Superintendent. The list includes teachers, classified personnel, parents, and community members The board thanked Mrs Evans and agreed to further discuss the selection of names of those recommended by the association to be on the committee. Troy Jones inquired as to whether the district had received any applications for the part time bus driver. The Superintendent reported that one application had been turned in and asked the Board if they were still interested in combining the position with the The a part time custodian. consensus of the board was to The combine the position. Superintendent said she w ould for the position. Jones inquired about the Troy procedure used by the district in order for a bus driver to obtain a CDL license. Superintendent reported that someone would be available to teach an eight hour bus driing course but other requirements arc mandated by the UDOT for any one applying for a CDL to drive a school bus. Student board member, Andrew Alder said he had contacted the schools and Eureka Elementary had requested they change early out days from The Thursday to Friday. superintendent explained that because some of the early out days arc used for staff dcclopmcnt and many of the extra curricular activities arc scheduled on Friday s, teachers would not be able to participate in both. Mary Lou Draper recommended that the Student Board member otc on all Board actions expect the hiring, firing, or salary schedules. Mary Lou fell it would be to the best interest of the board to allow the student board member to participate in such a manner. After some diseussion. the Board voted to allow the student board member to participate more fully with the exception of the hiring, firing, or wages. Principal, Carol Ann Duncan, that students in had kindergarten through sixth, published and illustrated pictures to go along with the story. Mrs Duncan explained the student's stories and pictures had been mailed to a publishing company for publication. Mrs. Duncan reported how successful the project had been and that she had imited Taylor Draper, Jessica Fields. Casey Wahlbcrg, and Sammy Jones to read their books. reported Mr. Ed Alder reported that during his Tiger Cruise on the USS Constellation, he met members of VS-a helicopter support squadron. This squadron, upon hearing of West Desert's 2, site-base- reading program, donated S500.00 towards library improvements at West Desert High.
