Show HERBERT HOPES WILL HEAD republican TICKET republicans held city convention last night when strong city f ticket was nominated platform calls for abolishing of license on meat dealers and peddlers republican I 1 ticket 41 11 maa or HFRBERT hopfe marshal STILLMAN f recorder NN J NING 1 I measurer jolln joun justice D A linasan coin ellit an air 4 year term FRANK t 11 2 beir terms t WIILIAM CHABLIS 7 aa A BRISKIE and jon JOHN N sf RANG I 1 the republican city convention was held at the city hall last night when an exceptionally strong ticket waa was placed in nomination after the delegates had been called to order al M D hewlett Howlet was chosen as temporary chairman and jere dascoll as compo po secretary the following corn com mittiea were then appointed after which there was a brief recess credentials jas morgan jas sned sued don and nels thompson permanent organization and order of business J 0 sullivan L 0 field and oscar forslund platform capt hugo Dep rezin john strang and 0 E huish harsh the temporary officers of the con bention were A ere made permanent and the following platform was adopted by the convention we the republicans of eureka city in convention assembled announce our allegiance to the great republican party of the nation and call atten tian to the world wide influence exerted by the present national ad i ministration through the able leader ship of theodore roosevelt we point with especial pride to the wise economic and business like ad ministration which has handled the affairs of this city for the past four y ars th se officers took up the reins of the city government at a time when the city treasur treasure 3 was de when the city s credit was exhausted and when the bonds out standing against the city amounted to 16 na e cannot help but call the attention of the taxpayers erb to the tte condition of the city four years ago and the condition at the present tim time e today we have almost a perfect water system the old system installed by the democrats at a cost of oer over 20 hav ing been entire entirely lj replaced in much better manner for less than one half the original cost our be re publican city officers have not only kept abreast of the times with public improvements but they have paid off the bulk of the bonded indebtedness of the cita cit leaving but unpaid which amount is not due for some time to come and also created a surplus in the treasury of over 2600 00 which will be increased to over 9 as soon as the tax money for the present year is received we aldge the nominees of this con bention to a continuance of the policies of the present city adminis and inasmuch as the city is now in splendid financial condition we believe that the general public will be bene fitted by the abolishing of the license upon produce peddlers lars and meat dealers and pledge our nominees to the city council to make these changes we believe in the passage of more stringent sanitary measures and the creating of a new office that of cit scavenger we also recommend that the question of improving the present sewerage system be taken up at once as the welfare of the city demands it fiam when the chairman an bounced that nominations were in order for the office of ma maor or capt Dep rezin nomi bated herbert hopes briefly stating hia his qualifications for the office there was no opposition to the nomination i of mr hopes an and d the of all the delegates delp gatea were cast for him for recorder there were two candi dates W J and joseph darton upon the first ballot mr Trego tregoning nir g received a majority of votes and was consequently nomina ted for the theotice office john Alor Morie leys ys nomination for city treasurer was unanimous and D A lindsay likewise lik enise bad had no opposition for the nomination to the office of the justice of the peace for city marshal there were tv t candidates preston stillman and frank barret the former winning I 1 out I 1 frank seal sea batura was the ous choice of the convention as councilman for the foul four year term the councilmen nominated for the 2 year terms were chares zabriskie william fite and john strang resolutions were adopted giving the city committee power to fill any vacancies upon the ticket and also making the eagle and bee beehive hive the party emblem |
