Show MIS MINES TO BE 01 mm OPERATED ON A IM ED SCALE reported that the amalgamated copper company is to curta I 1 the output from its mon tana mines butte mont overproduction ot of copper and a temporary lull in de mands tor for the red metal have caused the amalgamated copper company to curtail its output orders have been issued by which the output ot of the amalgamated properties will be re deuced to about 40 per cent of the nor mal production or from pounds to about 7 pounds per month and in the future no work will be done on sundays sunda YS curtailing the production to 40 per cent of the normal production will mean a reduction in the working forces that will throw about 5 men out of employment when the mines will resume with full forces is problematical the diamond mine will be closed and work at the bel mont will be completely suspended the gagnon and parrot mines are also shut down john gillie grille general superintendent of the amalgamated properties act ing under managing director john D ryan stated that there would be no general shut down at the present time for some time said mr gillie a gradual curtailment of the copper production has been going on we shall cease all construction work the shut down of the mines will avert a fuel famine this winter reducing the output of the amalgamate Amalga mat ed properties will have a far reaching effect with less tonnage to great falls and anaconda it will be feces sary to shut down portions of the smelters in these cities thus throw ing out of employment a couple of thousand men the action of the amalgamated copper company in adopting the sunday closing rule will probably be followed by all copper companies operating in butte |
