At the July meeting of Eureka City Council, a wide variety of city business was discussed, reviewed andor acted upon. Mayor David T. Kay presided, and Councilmcn answering roll call were: Jay Evans, Brian Underwood, Tim Hannifin, June McNulty and Lloyd Condcr. Included in the business of the meeting were the following: In the absence of Fred Garbclt, who was on vacation, Eugene Poulscn gave the following report: ..Lightning hit the sewer plant, knocked out ihc controls. Plant was down for two days. Had to air freight the controls from California to fix it. Don Wall and Ron Nelson did the electrical work and thanks were extended to them for their excellent work. ..Received second set of bleachers, and planned to put them up the following weekend. ..Fred picked up the paint for the Memorial Building. The upstairs ceiling needs to be patched due to roof leaking again. ..Have all materials to begin rerooftng the Memorial Building. ..Picked up fencing for park. ..Put down the roadbasc on Stack Street and Pope Street to get ready for them to be oiled. ..Cleaned and repaired cattle-guar- d at Cemetery entrance. ..Replace water line by Ray ..Made water and sewer conLump suma cash paid for notes & nections for Marc Shaddcn on TRACTORS FOR SALE. deeds of trust, notes & Bradford Street. r 3 seller-finance- other sizes; colors availabls callfor JD2940, Mr. Cunningham. On June 30, 1997, Eureka City Council held a special work meeting to discuss the options on garbage. It was decided that the garbage rates should be raised to make up for the shortfall on the bins. The cost of the roll-ocouncil voted in favor of raising the garbage rates $1.00. New rates will lake effect on the next hilling. Brent Miner was present to make a request to purchase some property that is adjacent to his up by Sharp Acres. He stated that in light of Sharp receiving 16 feet of property in trade for fencing, he would like to have that property made available for him to purchase. He presented a plat map showing the area he was interested in. He said that he would like to someday put in a double wide mobile home and as it is right now, he would not have the setbacks. Councilmcn agreed that before a decision could be made, they would need to go look at the area requested. Tom Judge inquired as to how much property was granted to Sharp. Mayor Kay stated that it was a triangular piece that was 16 feet from the middle of the trailer park and tapered down to 2 feet on the far side of the trailer park.. in trade for 6 foot fencing for the ballpark. Ben Spencer was present and inquired about the Shea Building. He had heard from friends that the city had sold the building once and got it back, and was wondering what he could pick it up for. Mayor Kay stated that the city had never sold the building and was not planning on selling the building. It is used to store equipment. Spencer then inquired about the old loaders and equipment behind the City Hall. Poulscn replied that he and Fred had discussed the matter and they would like to put the equipment and loaders up for bid. The trucks are being used for parts. Mayor Kay suggested that a list of all surplus equipment be put together and then they could advertise for bids. Meter readings for the winter months were discussed. A breakdown of the usage will be done to determine if the charge for those months is high enough to cover the costs. After the information is compiled, the finished product will be presented to the Council for their review. ff Summer is upon us and the State Tax Commission reminds sellers who participate in temporary events such a swap meets, trade shows, fair and arts festivals that they may need to get sales tax licenses for these events. Utah law requires sellers to obtain sales tax licenses for each business location. This requirement applies to temporary sellers such as street vendors, salespeople, artists and sellers at special events. The requirement also applies to businesses that have permanent sales tax licenses, but which periodically set up temporary retail sales operations in cities other than their home base of operations. This is to assure that cities get the appropriate the sales tax revenue generated from within their borders.
