Show Page Four - The Eureka Reporter - March 7.. 1997 Tom and Cleo Judge recently returned from a vacation trip to (lie southwestern part of the rutted States. Cleo gives the following account of their trip... We had a most enjoyable trip. Our first stop was in Mesquite. Nevada, where we enjoyed a show and gaming. Then on to Lts Vegas to visit daughter. Alice and husband. Nilo. and our grandchildren. Daniel and Amanda. After enjoying their new home for a couple of days, wc traveled to Like Havasu City. Arizona, where wc settled in for several days. Sightseeing tours included the London Bridge, tlic Cacti Gardens, and other interesting places. i;rotn Lake Havasu City, we (raveled on to Quartzsite. Arizona. to say "hello" to Bub and Fawn Fife, and then into Blytlte. California, where wc joined up with former Eurekans, Neil and Sybil McCormick. The four of us spent a day of shopping in Mexico and then traveled on to Palm Springs to visit Mac Blackett (an old timer front Eureka), and her son. Jimmy and wife Joyce. Mae is 94 and still living alone. Wc enjoyed her reminiscences of Eureka.. recalling many of the businesses that once were, but are long gone. Wc all returned to our headquarters in Blythe and the next morning said our goodbyes". Neil and Sybil headed back to Lts Angeles and we headed home to Eureka. We had three happy days with them.. we should do this more often. All in all. it was a great vacation." The Ent re Nous literary Club met at the home of KITic Bell. Members in attendance were: Cleo Judge, Joan Morris, Virginia Baderlscher, Sandy Evans, Iaula Evans, Mabel Butler, Laura McIntyre, Kdic Bell and Iairna Hannifin. Mabel reviewed the hook, "The Unfastened Heart", by Lane Von Herzen. It is the story of Anna de la Senda, a woman whose very name is a legacy of her daughter, Mariela, love; grows up to embody all its beauty and tenderness. Anna possessed an extraordinary empathy that draws to her a marvelous collection of lovelorn souls, who form a mischievous chorus in the novel and play matchmaker between Anna and a lonely widower. Their meddling takes Anna's life in a direction she never could have imagined; one filled with magic and uncertainty. While Anna is rediscovering passion, Mariela is encountering it for the first time. Anna wishes to protect Mariela from all worldly disappointments. but she cannot. The cadence of their daily lives is interrupted by loss, ungovernable and haunting, as Anna finds herself lorn between (lie man who wants tier badly and the daughter who needs her more. Clarissa, Katie's sister, gave a talk after which Lucas Sparrow, a brother from Payson. Baptized her. She was then Confirmed by her brother-in-laMark Sorensen of Spanish Fork. Others attending: Herman and Barbara Wilcox, Thane, Janet and three sons; and Heather. all of Salt Lake City. Rich and Jodi Christiansen and children. Bailee, Colton, and Paige; Mark and Haylcc Sorensen and children. Kudcn and Kennedy, all of Spanish Fork. After these services, everyone was invited back to Lrry and Deb's home for a delicious turkey dinner. The next day. Bonnie and TilTuny went to Spanish For for the Blessing of Murk and I lay lees daughter. Kennedy. She was blessed by her father. Larry and Dchhic Sparrow, and Gary and JoLynn Crouch are parents of Jodi, Hay lee and Lucas. Benjamin Erik Grimstead. son or Gordon and Leigh Grimstead. returned home on Friday, February 28, after serving a successmission for the ful Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had the privilege of serving in the Lansing , two-ye- ar Michigan Mission. He will give his mission report on Sunday, March 16. 1997, in the Eureka LDS Church. The meeting tune will begin at 10:45 a.m. Anvone interested is invited to attend. Building inspector seeks help with fees At (he February meeting of Eureka City Council, a discussion was held concerning a request from the Building Inspector, asking that the city help pay his recertification fee. Councilman Jay Evans stated that he had checked into the costs for recerti- fication and how other cities handle the recertification of their building inspectors. He found that most other cities take care of this cost. He also checked into the cost of the hooks needed for recertification. Chairman of the Planning Commission, attended the February meeting of Eureka City Council, and gave the following report. Joe Goodman attended the January meeting of the Council to request an extension on his conditional use permit for the (ravel trailer located next to his business. He was granted an extension. hut the permit expired January 8. 1997. After discussion. councilmcn voted in favor of giving Goodman another extension on Ins permit, which will expire on April 8. 1997. Two building permit applications Irutn Bill Riley, were reviewed. The building inspector had not received any plans for these, so the commission tabled ihc two applications. A building permit for Tim and IX'iusc Hannifin to build a new home on Iron & O'Connor Street, was reviewed. Plans had been signed off by the building inspector, and (lie Planning Commission could see nothing wrong with the location, plans or paperwork. The plans were approved and recommended to the City Council. were expressed Concerns about a cord running to the vacant trailer that was the last to be moved in. at Gout's Trailer Park. They felt that the cord didn't look safe. Mayor Pro Tern, Jay Evans, said that the City would have Lee L'ifson (building inspector) look into the matter. Commission members had concerns with trailers located in Sharp Acres Trailer Park, which have no skirting on them. All skirting material has to he in place within thirty days. It was agreed that a letter would he drafted and sent to all residents of the trailer park who arc not complying with the regulations. Serve as a liaison with the FACT team when necessary. Serve as a resource for staff and parents in health related issues. Crisis Intervention Respond to school when a medical crisis incurs. Make home visits as necessary.
