The Curriculum Team welcomed the opportunity to visit with your principal, and teachers and to observe the things you arc doing to implement the State We hope you perceived the visit as supportive and helpful. The Utah State Board of Education and our staff believe mastery of the Core Corriculum standards and objectives is essential for all students if they are to have access at the end of twelve years of schooling to college, vocational technical training, military training, or job entry. Therefore, implementation of the Core is a high priority for us and for you. Your district is commended for initiating a plan for Core implementation and the work that is in progress. The effort of teachers and staff with all of their additional assignments and severe cuts in funding, is truly remarkable. The informal dialogue before, after, and during our visit was very useful. Please convey our thanks to the principal, teachers, and head teachers of the schools we visited. We saw many fine teaching and learning examples which made each of us realize how important education really is in this state. Superintendent Openshaw, the district really appears to be moving ahead.
