Show A GHASTLY GATHERING. A party of gentlemen whoae good atandlng in the community ia not questioned, whose intelligence Is weJl understood, and whose attachment to Republican principles Is a matter ot record, assembled In Salt take City on Tuesday evening and said things. They were no doubt satisfied with whai they said, because, according to all reports that have leaked out, there were no ructions, no exciting ebullitions, and the numbers were hardly sufficient to construct a riot of any consequence out of. Most of the things that were said and a fair summing up of all that was done went a long way toward endorsing what this paper hB been trying to Impress upon the gentlemen's understanding, and It now looks as If success had perched upon our helm. It amounta to just this: The Repsbllcan party as a local proposition Is badly bunged up and woefully misled. Judging by tbe newspaper reports, Mr. J. U. Eldredge, Jr., chairman ot the county committee, and a very capable and affable young man withal, presented a pledge not a temperance the Republican party or elsewhere Isnt a Conkling.; he was one of the master minds of the age, considered as lawyer or statesman; and yet his resolution returned to plague the Inventor. because at .morally bound him The to support a man he despised. msjorlty of the convention looked upon the proceeding as a piece of usurpation as well as a reflection upon their loyalty and Integrity, and so It was. Republicans have made a record for striking off jBiackles, not putting them cm. and when any mat) or cot of men seek to accomplish the latter performance, there should be, as there invariably la, a feeling of resentment more or less pronounoed. Why tie voters up unless something sinister Is intended some such scnllduggery as has been Indulged In before and has. contributed more than anything else to dragging the party down Jn the depths of the slough of despond? Why not take the proper course and Insure success by calling the hosts together and allowing them without coercion to engage in a general selecting such officers as they desire and in general throwing down the bars so that all may occupy the Held, Instead of a helpless few as at present? In other words, let national politics supplant local factlonlum and then the great Republican party grand everywhere but here will rise and THE "BUSY ALL THE TIME PLE" STILL SUSY. ; PEO- , The Interest of the entire state has been a routed by the announcement of to the "(let Acquainted Excursion Mantl, to be given by the Manufacturers and Merchants' Association of Utah, which will be run Thursday, April 26. The run will be made over the Rio Grande Railroad composes lines, and the officials of tbe road have promised that nothing will be lacking in the matter of equipment and service to make the excursion the greatest success in the history of the association. The association Itself has not been slow in making arrangements tor the comfort of the guests. Experience has taught the officers and directors ot the organisation that the long runs that are made on these trips, with no opportunity to partake of refreshment on the way, are not altogether agree- - of their respective firms. This excursion will give these representatives a splendid opportunity to advertise their houses among tbs hundreds of other excursionists, and among the thousands of other persons with whom they will come in contact In the various towns that will be vis- ited. Stops will be made at Murray; Bingham Junction, Riverton, Lehl, American Fork, Provo, Sprlngvllle, Thistle, Fairvlew, ML Pleasant, Spring City sad Ephraim, before reaching Mantl. Mayor L. R. Anderson of Nephl, accompanied by a delegation representing the Arroplne. Commercial club of Mantl, visited Manager Gordon H. Place at the headquarters of the Manufacturers and Merchants association during the week and went Into the details of the trip at that time.
