Show THE CANYON COUNTRY IN A NUTSHELL The Photographic Evidence MORE PATCH THAN PAVEMENT: When was the last time some street in Moab’s city center was NOT ina state of de-construction? Somebody tell me. And is there ANY downtown merchant who was actually told in advance that the street in front of his/her business was about to be ripped up and access to their store blocked? We'd like to know. THE DEMISE OF THE OLD MAIN STREET BROILER... She was a familiar site for 40 years or more on the corner of Main St. and Kane Creek Drive. I've heard Ken Erbes ran the diner for years. It sat vacant in the late 1970s. For me, her salad days came in the mid-80s when Debbie & Carl Rappe re-opened it as the Main Street Broiler. In 1992, the Rappes sold the Broiler to Marc Horwitz who ultimately changed the name to the Star Diner and, a devout vegetarian, ; sold only veggie cuisine. In December 1998 he sold the property to Burger King and early this year, the old Broiler was razed. Wiped clean from the face of the Earth. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY MOTELS... In the trees to the left of this photograph, it is believed that the origina] Elk Mountain Mission was established by the LDS Church in 1855. For years, you could find remnants of rocks from the original foundation. Construction will soon begin on yet another motel...SIX marks the spot. DOGS OF THE MONTH! Tasha, Chaco (who own John Andrews) & Kiva (who dominates Jim Collar) are the official mascots of FOOTPRINTS...those computer guys in Mob. Maybe they should call it PAWPRINTS. |
