Show CONTROLLING GROWTH? OR "INCREASING DENSITIES" Envision Utah is a public/private partnership of Utah citizens who say they are concerned about our state’s future. The organization recently became a model of sorts for the U.S. Senate’s Smart Growth Task Force. But just how smart is Envision Utah? And Norma Nunn (W) 259-5021 are they really dedicated to controlling growth in the next 20 or 30 years? Well, it’s all a matter of word play. Nobody is talking - ly H) 259-727 about controlling the amount of growth, or the rate of growth. They have no interest in a slowing down population growth at all. They‘re just looking for innovative ways to relocate everybody so there’s still a little green space left. 2) a ® They want to “increase densities." Talk about irony, consider this: the soon-to-be ex- chairman of Envision Utah is named Robert Grow. Even more revealing is the fact that Mr. QUALITY REALTY 505 N. Main St. 259-5021 FAX: (435) 259-8381 Grow is about to give up his job to fulfill a lifelong dream---to go on a mission for the Mormon Church. It’s not religion-bashing, I don’t think, to point out that the Mormons are about as much into birth control and population reduction as Atheists are into Sunday School. So the only real mission of Envision Utah is to scrunch everybody into a corner of a 10 acre plot of land, so as to leave a little grass and trees in the other corner. I agree, it’s better than nothing. But it’s still no answer. Sooner or later, no matter how hard we try to re-arrange space, we're going to run out of room. Here’s a visual aid.... TWO VISITS BY THE KENNEDYS: FIFTY YEARS APART In more than a century of living, this grand old brick home that stands proudly along the north entrance to Moab, has opened its doors to many visitors. It was never more honored than the time Robert Kennedy and his wife, the former Ethe! Skakel, spent the night here. The Skakel Family once owned the Ranch House, and so, in the summer of 1950, Bobby Kennedy and his new bride traveled west on their honeymoon and stayed here. They never forgot the experience. Almost fifty years later, Robert Kennedy, Jr. paid a sentimental visit to the Ranch House, While there, Kennedy placed a call to his mother and owner Glenn Victor had the opportunity to speak to Ethel Kennedy. "It was one of the greatest moments and greatest honors of my life." The Grand Old Ranch House... Welcome. |
