The board also, approved 330 Merriam's permits, a decrease of five from the 555 offered in Barrel racers from across the state competed in the American West Barrel Race in Salina over the Labor Day weekend. Several racers from Carbon County competed in the event and many brought home prizes. The event was the largest barrel race ever in Utah with over 700 entries. Contestants competed for over $20,000 in cash, 12 saddles and 80 other awards. This is the second largest event in the American West Barrel Racing series next to the finals which is held in Reno each year. Former Price resident Bonnie Stradling had a successful series at the event by placing in three seperate series. Stradling placed third in the opend, first in the senior and first in the maturity even) opening day. Stradling also finished in third place in the open, first in the senior and first in the maturity event the following day. Finally, Stradling placed second in the open event the final day. She also won the average in the open ID event which captured her several prizes including cash, a saddle, blanket, jacket and belt buckle.
