In fad quarterback Jorgensen finished the game with 50 yards rushing and Laulu completed 3(1 yards rushing. It was a good win. We really ran the ball well and we threw better than we have the past two games, explained Dinos head coach Jeff Jorgensen. We did have some defensive breakdowns Sports reporter After losing tlufir first two games, the Caitxm Dinos entered last Fridays game determined to rack up their first win of the season. Inis is just what the Dinos did as they blew past Union 42-2- 7. The Dinos opened up the game with a quick seven punt lead after Perry Laulu ran six yards for a touchdown followed by the extra point kick by Jessie BUtckhum. In the second quarter, Jan Jorgensen ran nine yards and Blackham scored the extra point to push the Dinos ahead of Union Union came back however by scoring 13 points in the second quarter to bring the halftime score to 3 in Carbon's favor. Carbon Union Sports reporter - As the Dinos come off of an amazing victory, the team pre- pares for their next competitor Wasatch. The Dinos will travel . Friday to take on the fifth ranked team in the state who Jorgensen feels will be the toughest competition Carbon has faced so far this year. They are a tough team. They beat the number two team in the region and they held on tight against the number one team as tlKy kist Ml Wasatch has a strong passing game. In order for us to win, we will need to stop the pass, explained Jorgensen. They have a tough defense too. All we need to do is come right at them, concluded Jorgensen. The Dinos will compete against Wasatch this Friday on the road, but the team will return to the Dino field for competition Sept 20 to compete in their homecoming game of the 2002 season. 7 7 0 13 21 0 7-- 42 14-- 27 football fans have had withdrawls from their favorite sport Sure there have been various sports gracing the highlight reels throughout these seven months, but for a football fan, they are just notthesame. .There is just something about the physical contact of football that gets fans adrenalin flowing. I would like to see baseball players tackle the runners and take them to the ground with a thud. Or even the def&nse of a basketball team form a line and blitz the unstoppable" Michael Jordan as he rushes down the court. This sure could make sporting events interesting, not to mention ' The soccer season continued for the Dinos this last week as the team traveled to Lehi on Thursday and played Delta at home on TUesday. Because of lightning the game against Lehi was delayed about 15 minutes but when the competition began the athletes found themselves playing in the wind and rain. This didn! dampen the Dinos spirits however. According to Dinos coach Dave Capalbo, Lehi passes the ball so well that it looks like they have 20 players on the field. They are always in the proper spot, their passes are perfect and they had so much team speed 1 was ' amazed. Despite the quick speed of Lehi, the Dinos kept up as best as possible. Unfortunately, the best efforts of the Dinos was not enough to capture a victory as Carbon was defeated by Lehi 7-- 0. Cross country pericnced to make major positional changes on the fly. That was one of the keys to Deltas 7--1 victory at the CEU field on TUesday evening. But just the same Capalbo is encouraged. They arent that much better than us, he says. In this game I had to hold out a couple of our varsity players due to them miss--. ing practice. We had plenty of opportunities to score but nothing was hard enough on our goal. The one score the Lady Dinos did get was a penalty kick that Carton was awarded because the Lady Rabbits were using their hands. Julie Swinburne took that kicfctyd drilled it into the upper comcitefc the goal, said Capalbo. It was such a nice shot Both the players he held out of the game were defensive start- ers and Capalbo had to make some adjustments, which, with athletes who are inexperienced is quite a feat Capalbo. As the Dinos continue to improve their; skills, coach Capalbo reminds them that even a couple of wins is great. Learning the ball skills and game strategy will only come with years of experience, concluded coach Capalbo. It takes years of development to create an excellent soccer program. It takes junior leagues, co- operation between coaches and .players who bloom with ability, Carbon Highs girls soccer program is only a few years old, . and the developmental system in the county is almost nonexistent. But just the same the girls team has made tremendous progress this year. I still need to keep things as simple as possible for a few years, says coach Dave Capalbo. Our team is still just too inex-- game as the team easily defeated Union had 50 rushing yards against tjie Cougars. Jorgensen team competes ' in Utah County invitational .
