The reasons for the Fly-I- n were three-folOne, to increase operations at the airport. Tvo, to increase public awareness of the airport and its services to the community. Three, to increase awareness of the airport and the services provided by this community to those involved in general aviation. All of these goals are closely linked and depenin scope. dent upon each other, and all are long-terWe only had 12 I personally think that the Fly-Isuccess. a was aircraft come in but those who came made it a point to tell me that if we do it again next year to invite them back. DAWN BOYLE 435-587-22- Same There were a lot of people who worked hard to make this event a success. I am writing this letter to publicly thank them. First and foremost is Anna Thayn and the Fair Board. They put together one of the best County Fairs that I have seen here is San Juan County. All of the different activities just helped to make the Fly-Ibetter because it gave those flying in other interesting things to do. Second, she went the extra mile to see to it that we had what we needed to make the Fly-Ia success, brochures, signs and banners. Thank you, Anna, for all your work. Then there was the City Council who allowed us to do this and supported us with the things that we needed to pull it together. Then those in the City Office. Trent Schafer, Debbie and Rita Walker who helped with the letters and mailings to all the pilots in the 4 Corners area. The City Maintenance crew who did the dirt work and helped in other ways. Next, I would like to thank Commissioner fy Lewis and Sheriff Lacy for stepping up to bat when it looked like the Young Eagles program was going to stall and fall out of the sky. I would also like to thank Clyn L. Young for his part with the Young Eagles program. I would like to thank Burton Black and Black Oil for donating the van and the pens for the pilots packets. Then there were all the motels and other businesses who gave reduced rates, and coupons for discounts on merchandise. I wish we could have brought more people in to support you and I would like to thank Jack Randolph and the County Road Department for their timely response to my call for help to sweep the runway and help with the new tie down area. I also thank the Airport Committee for backing me on this and helping where they could. Burton Black, James Curtis, Joel LeBlanc and Cray Wangelin. It would not have come off without you guys. There were many others that helped also, Scott and Wendy Benson, Roger and Peggy Koon, Bob Francom, Phil and Julie Zwahlen, Grayson Redd, Roberta and Tammy Mussclman, who volunteered on the spot and manned the computer for the E.A.A. during the Young Eagles program, Kraig and Jennifer Black and the Scouts of Troop 382, who did the cooking and the Chamber of Commerce, who donated money and the food, the Lions Club, who fed those who flew in breakfast. I apologize to you for not being there to help out. Then the prisoners who painted signs and helped to do the dirty work. And Linda, my lovely sweetheart, who supported us and gave it the professional touch that it needed to be a success. There were many others who helped in various ways, like the businesses that displayed our brochures and the Young Eagles forms. Jack Redd and his Cowboys who retrieved a calf from the runway area. And lastly, the public who came out to see the airplanes, the moms and dads who got up so early to bring their kids for the Young Eagles program and those who came just to see the Steerman and hear the music, maybe for the last time, of a 9 cylinder, 450 horsepower Pratt and Whitney radial engine. It was a community effort and the outcome was really great. It was an investment in the future: the future careers of Young Eagles, the future of aviation, the future of this community and the county. I thank all of you. n n Sincerely, Donald C.
