Courtesy photo Blanding man presents findings at conference Gordon Nielson, of Blanding, attended the annual conference of the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers at the University of Utah on March 16 and 17. At the conference, Nielson and Dr. Michael Duxler, Associate Professor of Social Work at New Mexico Highlands Uni- versity, presented preliminary findings from an ongoing re- search project focusing on families of the Southwest. The presentation, entitled Family Characteristics of In- digenous Cultures of the Southwest: Clinical Implications reports on information gathered to this point from a study initiated by Duxler and Nielson in the fall of 1998. Nine students from the University of Utah spend their spring break registering voters in San Juan County. They concentrate efforts on precincts with low voter registration. They register 518 voters, although the county clerk reports that at least 120 may already be on the rolls.
