Why Ireland of course among the magic and myths the leprechauns and legends and the old haunts of St stu- Patrick himself Twenty-seve- n sula on the Southwest edge of Ireland Again wc were impressed with the grandeur of the countryside and the craggy landscape of Dingle Bay The fog cut into thc'silcs of the day so wc returned to Killamcy in time to go on a “jaunt" A “jaunt” is a highbrow term for a horse and buggy ride through Muckross Park In Killamcy nobody seemed in a hurry especially the horse All Irishmen seemed friendly and happy stairwell that led to the top of the ancient castle To kiss the stone wc had to lie on our backs and drop our heads down to reach the stone It was enough to scare the gift of gab out of anyone Our accommodations in Dublin were a step down or was it up from our previous nights Whichever it was there were a lot of steps (no elevators) that led us every which way until wc were finally distrib- - Osborn father of financial aid director Bill Osborn sported his CEU sweatshirt In front the world reknowned Oxford University in England Carl dents faculty staff and community members fmm CEU did just that as they toured Ireland Wales and England during spring break Lee Johnson of the CEU theater department organized and I hI the tour No wonder Ireland and green are synonymous The rolling green hills dolled with hundreds of yellow daffodils stone walls and shaggy sheep depict the beauty of the Irish countryside This along with the crumbling walls of rounds castles and fences portray the ancient history and brings to life the textbook beauty of the Emerald Island that wc observed on this ‘rip We spent the first night in the picturesque city of Killamcy in an “imposing" lake front hotel The next morning we look a I scenic bus trip around the Ring of Kerry a rocky magnificent penin- IO-mi- to have us as visitors That evening St Patrick's Day there was much singing and dancing that took place in the local pubs On the third day wc drove to the ancient and modem city of Dublin The highlight of the trip was the stop at the Blarney Castle to kiss the famous Blarney Slone To reach the stone wc had to climb up about three stories on a winding stone cross-count- ry uted into comfortable rooms that required walking on or diving over the bed to get from one side of the room to the other It was all part of the adventure We toured Dublin visited Phoenix Park and St Patrick's Cathedral which was begun in 1 190 but dates largely from a 19th century restoration funded by the Guiness family see Ireland on page 11 WO m Gbsiuo Ctonu® OUCI® nrrmnTtnri ®3na3i0roCto®(:nijjja8 6 91)01 3teDRnEBia GfiRttfiDGci!
