to Brent Haddock those in attendance learned a lot and had fun The unique features of Vigil's style are strong colors and monumental shapes Within these larger than life shapes are gesture marks and subtle details that must be studied allowing the viewer a microscopic examination of the subject matter Vigil has an obvious affinity for animals as many of his subjects are dogs cats deer and horses However his signature image that he is best known for is that of palm trees Vigil got his first taste of printmaking in his father's workshop as he practiced making prints of palm trees He also draws from the features of the land he knew as a boy growing up in California to create the backgrounds for many of his prints” Drug and alcohol abuse is still a major problem Daren Fairbanks staff writer by Diug use abuse and addiction is the subject of CEU's Substance Abuse Awareness Week Some of the objectives of these and other activities sponsored by the Office of Substance Abuse Awareness are to increase students' understanding of the influence drugs have on those who use them Dennis Holm of Highland Ridge Hospital Wednesday presented a set of steps for recognizing the signs of drug use and abuse together with a program for establishing relationships with a foundation of consistent standards and honest communication able to withstand the strain of intervention and treatment for abuse problems in either a family or a work related situation This and other information presented this week is intended to help CEU sUidcnts faculty and staff work together to fight substance abuse According to Dean of Student Life Jay Andrus there is some drug and alcohol abuse and addiction by CEU students though s clear picture of the magnitude of the problem is possible at this point "But" he says Tm an idealist if only one or twokids have a serious problem then it's serious enough to worry about serious enough to do something about" Though Andrus acknowledges that every student with substance abuse -- problems cannot be helped because many of them refuse to accept help he expressed hope that even one student who needs help will get it one who has a friend win help them recognize their problem and seek treatment or one who is offered drugs will refuse them "If one student goes to it an Awareness Week Activity and is helped it is all worth “partying" staff writer Dozens
