matches in four divisions The tournament which is open to the community featured a qualifying round robin tournament and then a championship bracket to determine the winners in Novice Singles Intermediate Singles Advanced Singles and Open Doubles Thirty-fiv- e competitors and with trophies participated the to awarded tof prizes being three places in each division Several prizes were donated by Gart Brothers and JB's of price Brian Noel won the CEU-BDA- C Singles Johnson placed second and Bill Barnes third David Finn took first in the Intermediate Singles Dennis Christensen second and Miles Morctti third Ray Macstas won out in the Novice Singles with Sieve Powell placing second and Roy Hyde third The team of Jeff Johnson and Don Larsen conquered the Doubles Division after an opening round loss They beat Mike O' Shea and Matt Pollock who finished second Defending champs Dennis Christensen and Gary Arrington placed third The next open tournament will be scheduled in March or April The Lady Eagles took tough losses from North Idaho and Ricks but bounced back strong on the road against Snow and Dixie for a split that was welcomed as the season winds down to a end North Idaho 85 CEU 53 This game was really no as surprise North Idaho figured to be a tough competitor for the Lady Eagles Haylcy Briggs contributed 16 points in a losing cause while Tammy Taylor added IS points and Tina Sperry and Heather Miles both had 8 "We knew it would be a tough game but we were hoping to keep the seme closer than it was" commented Coach Stolk Ricks 81 CEU 50 This was another game that figured to be a battle for the Lady Eagles and it turned out to bcjustthaL Tammy Taylor was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 17 points while April Bennett and Haylcy Briggs both added 1 1 points "This game really needed to be played well in order for us to stay in it and we just didn't do that at times" the coach said Snow 66 CEU 73 The Lady Eagles were to hoping gain back some respect on the road against Snow and they did just that as they showed a lot of heart and desire "We played real good” Stolk said "It was an excellent ball game" Cindy Jones had 16 points and 10 rcbourids while Haylcy Briggs contributed 14 points and 8 assists and Heather Miles added 7 points and 12 rebounds Tammy Taylor and Laurel Davis also played well This definitely was a team victory as everybody pulled together and helped ouL Dixie 80 CEU 79 This game was a tremendous ball game that should have been won by the Lady Eagles With just six seconds left in the game Hayley Briggs that should hit a have tied the game up and sent it into overtime but the referee's only counted it as two so that left them down by one three-point- er At the other end of the court Dixie put up a last second shot and Heather Miles came down with the rebound as a Rebel player came over her back only to have the referees not make a call "We should have won the game but the refs were terrible" the coach said "This was the best ball we've played all year and part of that was due to our lack of turnovers" Cindy Jones had 22 points and 8 rebounds while Tammy Taylor contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds with Haylcy Briggs adding 12 points and 15 assists The Lady Eagles are this home Friday and Saturday Treasure against Valley and the Idaho in the Southern College of BDAC at 5:15 pm This will lose anyone on the court Basketball players with lower grades are also required to attend a study hall every day at 2:15 This is to encourage good study habits and forces the players to use their time wisely Matt Smith according to Stubbs was the highest academic player earning a 38 fall quarter He is on an art scholarship at CEU "I feel that grades are very important because 1 almost lost some key
