Hector Chiara Carbon County Clerk was the guest speaker on February 11 Mr Chiara told the students the correct voting procedure and how to go about registering to vote He said that anyone of age can register to vote in the Courthouse daily from 9 am to 5 pm except on weekends and holidays One cannot register ten days prior to an election and must live in Utah for thirty days before being eligible years up to the present time Before closing the students were reminded that the general election is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November Everyone was encouraged to do his part and go out and vote On Tuesday February 17 an Awareness Forum on the Status of Women was held in the Student Lounge with four women of CEU presiding in a panel presentation Theywere coorGunda Cromar dinator of the Learning Resource Center Anita Mestas counselor and a member of the Governor's Council on the Status of Women Lea Cotter instructor of the Learning Resource Center and Janet Massman student Academic Vice-preside-nt The presentation was divided into four categories of discussion as each panel member presented a broadview of some aspect of the Status of Women The main topics discussed in the hour were: "The Working Woman” supported by Mrs Cromar "The Purpose and Objectives of the Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women” explained by Ms Mestas "Sexism and Role Playing” interpreted by Ms Cotter and a student opinion on the Status of Women by Janet Massman The conclusion of the forum expressed personality values as a skit entitled "Free to Be You and Me” was presented by Rodger Sorensen Lance Wright Michelle Powell Susan Widman Linda Slaugh Lea Cotter Gerald Uoyd and Pam Piadtelli ( f Ms Barfield secretary for President Dean McDonald Linda who is now living in Price with her four children three boys and one girl is a graduate of Carbon High School After graduation Linda spent two years in the Navy She has lived in several eastern states and also Puerto Rico Linda moved back to Price three years ago and has been working at the local CAP office She wants to get her associate degree in business management and will be taking classes part time next quarter She is a very active person whose main interest is her diildren They like to go hiking and sleigh riding together and Linda also enjoys cooking sewing and helping in the boy scout program She enjoys her new job and finds it very in- teresting Linda said "It gives me a chance to improve the skills that I have and to develop new ones” She also likes the opportunity it gives her of meeting so many new people |
