Show THE GOLDEN Page Two CEU EAGLE Friday February 13 1971 Needs More Students No money! The Senate needs more money to plan student body activities The yearbook staff needs additional funds to do the best possible job on the yearbook But the money is just not available What determines how much money is allotted to CEU from state funds? Student enrollment is the determining factor The more students attending CEU the more money available A few years ago this college was the largest junior college in the state This is no longer true CEU has the capacity right now to hold 1200 students without building with the exception of dormitories So without having to spend much more money CEU could have much more money for student use There is something that students of CEU can da With people coming here from all over the country as well as all over the state and if each present student would encourage friends at home to come it would not take long to boost enrollment — and funds — considerably It is surprising what even one person can do How to Kill a Good School By JoAnn Tryon If you would like to kill a good school here arc a few things to do: Get all the school can give you and don’t give anything in return Never attend any of the meetings called for the good of the school if you don't have anything to say Wait until you get outside and then cuss those who made suggestions Find fault with everything that was done Never accept an office It is easier to criticize than to do things Don't do anything more than you have to When others willingly and unselfishly give their time to make a better school howl because the school is run by a clique Look at every proposition in a selfish way If you are not the one who gets the most out of it vote against it Never consider what it will do for the school as a whole If you have good school leaders don’t follow them Take a jealous attitude and talk about everything they da Don’t work an any committees Thcll them "I’m too busy” Above all don’t support your clubs and organizations Expect them to furnish you activities and entertain you but don’t back them KNOW ANYONE LIKE THAT? To Have a Friend be One by Steve Paschall —as be was in the beginning Hi Jack Hi Ray these are a few of the people you could be saying “Hi" or "Hello" to and probably a lot more Why not to everyone? Doesn’t it give you a great feeling when someone walks past and has enough acknowledgment to say "Hi"? I know that it’s a gratifying feeling At least you know that someone knows that you're around It's even self gratifying when you say "Hi" because you’re helping someone else out in their search for true humanity in our society and within their own sphere Okay "Hi" to all those who read this It’s not a personal hello but if I see you in person of course I’m going to say something because every person I know and those I hope to know are my friends because they have to live in the same world that I da What is a friend? I'll tell you It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself Your soul can go naked with him He seems to ask you to put on nothing only to be what you really are When do not you are with him you have to be on your guard You can say what you think so long as it is genuinely you He understands those contradictions in your nature that cause others to misjudge you With him you breathe freely— you can avow your little vanities and envies and absurdities and in opening them up to him they are dissolved on the white ocean of his loyalty He understands— you can weep with him laugh with him pray with him—through and underneath it all he sees knows and loves you A friend I repeat is one with whom you dare to be yourself If you could show faith and trustfulness to people friends you can have faith etc in humanity It is in our own hearts to accept others for what they arc Too many people put up false fronts which make people judge them for what they really aren't I have faith in you But at times I you don't show truthfulness want you to trust in me Our future lies in our hands and with our ideas maybe we can proceed to be friendly (Continued on Page Four) Cares?? Who Who Cares? Will You be Mine? By Dennis Deaton Yearbook Editor By Mr West tells his Psychology class that there is a marked difference between sensation and perception Sensation— the receipt of information through the senses Perception— the interpreting of that information This being true this year's yearbook will not create a sensation but will create a perception Simply speaking it will not be a picture book or a glorified place to collect autographs It will be an interpretation of you and your college life It is a yearbook with an opin- ion a prejudice and a point of view It expresses itself in picture in verse in line in accusation in commendation Many of you will like it many of you won't Some of you will agree with it more of you won't It's probably a lot like this article-so- me will understand it and some won't even read it— who cares? Lindane Gerrard "I’d sky rocket to the moon if you were to be my valentine” This and many other little "sayings” were familiar to us as we grew up But now that we are grown up we say such things as "be my valentine?" or if we get brave we say "will you be mine?" Valentine's day has many versions of its origin the most exciting is the mc of Saint Valentine He was imprisoned and he was in love His way to ' communicate his loveonly was to send sweet notes of love to his sweetheart Time passed and February 14 was declared Saint Valentine's Day This is really a brief version of the story— but you under- stand I'm not so forward that I'll write sweet notes to the ones I love so I'm sending them a rather personal note in an impersonal way KELLEY’S Price Drug 1 EAST MAIN You're handsome well built and fairly intelligent— you know who you n re— and here’s my special note— "I’d skyrocket to the moon if you were to be my valentine!"
