Show EAGLE THE GOLDEN Page Two How Dependoble Are You? CEU Chamber Choir Named By TERRY GILSON How many clubs and organizations do you belong to? How many responsibilities do you have on campus? How many people depend on you to be someplace or do something at a certain time? Do you do it it is easy to become involved in all types of activities But sometimes we either become involved in more than we can handle or don’t have the time in the first place There is a lot of fun and glory to participating in all the big campus activities But there is also a lot of responsibility to others Once we are committed to something people expect us to follow through and accomplish what we are supposed to Then if that something does not get done or someone does not show up at that certain time activities fall through If you are going to become involved in the many activities that are available on the CEU campus be sure that you have the time and you are dependable enough to be an asset to that club or organization As college students Reflections of Today’s Youth By Steve Johnson During the past week most of our attention has been focused on the new Draft Lottery system and the excitemet it has caused At the present time it appears that the question isn’t so much about who will have to serve in the armed forces but rather who will have to go to Vietnam I have talked to a number of people since the lottery was drawn and I would like to consider some of the reasons for the feelings that young men and young people in general have about serving in the armed forces today or specifically in Vietnam Most of us have heard the criticism that comes from the adult generation (usually parents who don't have draft-age- d sons) about the apparent lack of patriotism of today's young people Today's young men have been called lazy louts sissy and a colorful array of other expressions including unpatriotic Is this true- - Are the young men of today less concerned about the welfare of our country than were thir feathers and grandfathers in the past two world wars? Let's consider the condition they went to war in in World War Two for example Germany had a mad man who wanted to conquer the world and had he not been stopped by the allied forces including the U S he might have done so Who would have wanted to live under his rule? No one did! So rather than let our country become an eventual victim to this mad man and his associates the men of our country of necessity went off to fight Not because they loved to fight but because our country was in danger and they just wanted to go get the job done and get bade to their loved ones the Many didn't get back price we have to pay in this world we've created Let us now consider the feelings that young men today have to take with them when they go to war We are fighting on the other side of the world in a small place which has little if any economic or political value to us I don’t wish to go into the rea- sons why we are still there who really knows for sure? But one thing we do know when we send our young men over there there can be no victory for us now! There can be no definite peace when it’s over either How docs it make you feel to think that you may be sent to a war the outcome of which cannot be determined by the purpose for which you believe you are there How does it make you feel to go fight for the welfare of another country (not ours) and give your life if need be when at the same time the country's own forces are deserting by hundreds and thousands and their weak and corrupt government will not make the proper attempt to do anything about it Are young people today unpatriotic or shall we look closer at their anxieties Can we possibly have any empathy for them or shall we just shove aside their thoughtless protests and pleas? No we cannot because today's young people are a great deal more educated than were the young people 20 or 25 years ago They know what's going cm and if they must take part in it then it is only right that they have a voice in it also Isn't this one of the freedoms that we have fought so hard in the past to preserve? The only real difference now in this draft system is that a young man will have a better idea when his turn is at hand according to where his birthdate is numbered Those on the bottom third of the list we arc told may not have The Department of Choral Music has organized a select group of vocalists into the Chamber Those interestChoir for 1969-7in ed porticipating in this group auditioned individually for Mr Jay Andrus disector Contestants were required to sight read their vocal part vocalize and sing a solo Brenda Ulster Raline Peterson Terri Neeley Joan Craig and Ann Barret were chosen as sopranos Loma Golding LeAnn Hansen Barbara Simper Jacque Carlson and Terry Gilson filled the alto section Art James Mike Monfredi Steve Mimnaugh Ken Jarrell Dave Baker arc the tenors George Brown Robby Robertson Ken Albrechtscn Carl Hanson and Tom McChala complete the basses The Chamber Choir pcrformdc with the CEU College Choir in the Christmas Concert on December 11 Solos ensembles and a program of secular and religious numbers were presented 0 to be called at all— at least until some new bill is introduced to amend the present draft bill One young man whose birthdate is Sept 14 was asked what he thought about the whole thing His reply "This is the first time in my life that I’ve ever won anything" Well if he feels like a winner he feels much different than a few thousand other young men who arc awaiting the Jan draft quota What are your feelings? Are you patriotic? Do you love humanity and arc you concerned with the welfare of the who'c world or just your own private world? Think about it and let us know how you feel in CEU's Golden Eagle Friday Life In December CARS for College Students Special This Week Olds 412 with 1 Speed New and Used Cars See Duane Rasmussen or Mike Jensen 1969 the Dorms in the dorms offer chances to sleep in catch up on the laundry and study without too much interruption But when night time rolls around you just don't feel like studying Friday and Saturday evenings have little to offer residents who have come from considerable distance and are not acquainted with the town’s hot spots Any native of Price can testify to the difficulties of finding anything exciting to do unless you know the right people The solution is simple A few more natives should make time on weekends to cheer a resident So girl scouts and boy scouts do your duty and save a dormy from having to watch Nightmare and Frighmare alone again this week Start now!
