One can see why for many reasons One special day was set aside for the main purpose of remembering and honoring the dead People who were mothers or fathers relatives friends and war heroes have gained this special privilege of being rememb-ered-t- y the gift of flowers If one looks at a graveyard the day after decorations have been put on it is a most beautiful I would particularly thank my officers for the help they have given me Thank you for so much Your Freshman President Steve Hastie sight One that suggests grandeur and simplicity in its fullest form And one that gives recognition to all who wear the flowers Have you ever wandered along paths and read epitaphs? Some tell just who the person was and when he died Other tombstones tell what a special person gave to society or took away from it Each can give you a lesson about war love or the nature of humans Remember this day — it is a reminder of the past and an assurance of the future — Classes taught Daily MWF — 8:00-10:0- 0 10:00-12:0- 8:00-10:0- 10:00-12:0- Change is essential to any viable institution We are pleased with the new vitality of student interest in change We are also pleased that you have chosen to effect change within the system within the irarena of rational thought rather than through emotion-charge- d rational acts a sanctuary of reason as opposed to force as long as we have the kind of support this year’s student body has given You deserve the plaudits! am MAY 2 1st period MWF 6th period noon Classes taught Daily 1:004:00 pm — Classes taught Daily MWF 8th period TUESDAY MAY 2 am — Classes taught Daily MWF 4th period 0 noon — Classes taught Daily MWF 3rd period 1:004:00 pm — Classes taught at 7:00 ajn WEDNESDAY MAY 4 0 am Classes taught Daily MWF 2nd period 0 noon — Classes taught Daily MWF 7th period 1:004:00 pm — Classes taught at all other times 8:00-10:0- 0 The student body president now serves as a full voting member of the Administrative Council This is the body that makes day to day governance decisions that vitally affect your lives as students and is one example of the revolutionary changes that have and will take place GEU will remain 1969 Final Exam Schedule This opportunity to express my esteem editorially to this year’s student body is appreciated We are witnessing revolution on many revocollege campuses that has taken violent form That our own is tribute to a you and lution is constructive and not destructive your student leaders In this time and place in educational history this choice is crucial We are witnessing the destruction of some formerly great institutions because they have abandoned orderly change Wednesday June 4 The Rewards of Excellence Third and fourth periods Thursday the 29th the annual awards assembly was held for the students of the College of Eastern Utah Such was the bulk of students certificates receiving and scholarships special awards that the lack of space prevents their names from being printed However the organizations they represented can be Certificates of service went to members of the Executive Council the Collegiate Council the Senate the Associated Men’s Student officers the Associated Women’s Student officers the Newspaper staff the Yearbook staff class officers the Blue Debs and the cheerleaders who also received sweaters Outstanding woman physical education award went to Kristen Reese The traveling team trophy went to the ABC club for the Powell in track Jerry Carlson Rees The traveling team trophy most participants Player of the year for tennis was Terry in baseball Ralph Sanich basketball Ken Reynolds Most inspirational player award was received by Mark Justice the scholarship award was given to Terry Alger and the all around athlete went to Ken Reynolds In the dramatic arts and forensics department the speech student of the year went to Kathy DeSimone Shawnda Peterson received the Theatre student of the year award The Cosmetology award was a with Kristene Blevins and Dcanne Barton winning the award tic In the music field Ann For- - syth won the award Carlene won top awards in the science field The technical award went to Lyle Cole and Shannon Bryner received the home economics award The business award was received by Margery Simora and the English department gave its award to Sue Geary Outstanding club of the year was the Newman Gub the best assembly was put on by the Associated Men Students Susan Spenser received the outstanding freshman student award and Shawnda Peterson was the recipient of the Outstanding Student on Campus award Runners up for this last award were Sue Geary and Carolyn Postma Mat-ekovi- ch Redeo Week Sum Up CEU's annual rodeo was held May 15 and 16 It was regarded as a great success by all those in attendance After two go rounds in each event the winners arc: All Around Cowboy: Kay Tru- man All Around Cowgirl: Lynna Rukavina Bareback Bronc: Scott Timothy Saddle Bronc: No riding Calf Roping: Dean Carrol Sweetheart Ribbon Roping: Kay Truman Bull Riding: Ray Jeffs Women's Barrels: Lynna Rukavina Goat Tying: Kathy O’Neil The CEU Rodeo Gub extends thanks and appreciation to all persons who participated in Rodeo Week and helped to make it such a great success THE GOLDEN EAGLE L Brent West Editor Thomas J Holdaway Assistant Editor Randy Johnson Business Manager HIMHINIHIIIIMnilMIIIMIIIMIIMaiHMNIIIMlinilllllUMIII In Pat Johnson Steven Johnson Advertising Manager AMS Reporters Ricky Gilbert Steve Johnson Richard Maughan AWS Reporters Anna Lee Holdaway Vivian Farlaino Linda Smith Jill Esklund Richard Maughan Photographer Typist Gay Nordfelt Advisor MHMIlHItHalMimilM — |
